ALLIGOOD, Dodson Roe, 68, of Roanoke, died Sunday, January 19, 1997. He was preceded in death by his father, Willie Alligood. He is survived by his mother, Lena Mae Alligood; brother and sister-in-law, Preston and Ola Alligood, all of Washington, N.C.; five children and thei r spouses, Steve and Bonnie Alligood, Mark and Tracy Alligood, Tracy and Cort Thomas, Lynne Sexton, and Robin Boitnotte; one much beloved and adored granddaughter, Lauren Elizabeth Alligood; two stepgrandchildren, Worth and Linda Jenkins. He is also survived by his loving and loyal companion, Joan Pendleton and her daughters, Kim Hood and Kristie Sell; and also by his former wife and friend, Barrie Alligood. Graveside services will be held in Fair View Cemetery at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 22, 1997, with the Rev. Frank Feather officiating. ALTICE, Ozzie Wilson, 94, of Wirtz, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 19, 1997, at Community Hospital. He was a member of the Red Valley United Methodist Church and was a retired farmer. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, and daughter, Martha Elizabeth Mitchell. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Eva Jane Fisher Altice; two daughters and a son-in-law, Mildred Altice, of the home, Helen and Robert Kelley, Roanoke; three sons and daughters-in-law, Wilford and Betty Altice, Clayton and Flora Altice, Herbert and Estelle Altice, all of Wirtz; a son-in-law, Johnnie Mitchell, Moneta; nine grandchildren, Ann and Roger Walker, Mike and Gwen Altice, Kathy and Rickey Amos, Tammi and David Truman, Cynthia and Harold Hyler, Sonya and Keith Hyler, George Kelley, Steve Kelley, John Altice; two stepgrandchildren, Keith and Lori Chitwood, Greg Chitwood; ten great-grandchildren, Jesse and Deidra Walker, Brian, Jason and Mindy Altice, Danielle Amos, Zachery Truman, Jessica and Brittany Hyler, Travis Hyler, Stephanie Kelley; four stepgreat-grandchildren, Blaine and Kasey Chitwood, Brendon Bruce and Julia Chitwood. ANDERSON, Henry Russell, 73, of Rocky Mount, died Monday, January 20, 1997 at his residence. He retired from the Lane Company and was a long time member of the Flint Hill United Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, Gladys Pugh Anderson, of the home; his son, Lewis Anderson, Rocky Mount; daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Lee Bibbs, Rocky Mount; his two lovely grandchildren, Russon and Ashlee Bibbs; his brothers and sisters, Virginia Anderson, Rocky Mount, Curtis Anderson, Rocky Mount, James (J. L.) and Yvonne Anderson, Rocky Mount, Sylvia and Silas Holland, Rocky Mount, Rachel and Kenneth Allman, Glade Hill, Shirley and Dale Brown, Wirtz; and a number of neices and nephews. AYERS, James Burton, (``Jim"") , 54, of Lexington, died Monday, January 20, 1997 in the Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Roanoke. Mr. Ayers was born on June 19, 1942 in Covington, and was the son of Alma Clements Ayers of Lexington and the late James M. Ayers. He was a member of the Kerrs Creek Baptist Church, Lexington, a member of the Lexington Moose Lodge and IBEW Union. Mr. Ayers was employed by Virginia Power for the last 30 years. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Irma Dean Ayers; one daughter, Shannon Ayers, Lexington; two sisters, Janet Carter, Buena Vista, Sandra Rhodes, Columbia, S.C.; two brothers, Wayne Ayers, Huntsville, Ala., Ronald Ayers, Lexington; and two loving dogs, Molly and Ripple. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 22, 1997 at the Harrison Funeral Chapel with Dr. Thomas G. Harvey officiating. BELFIORE, Frank, 83, of Roanoke, and formerly of New Milford, Conn., died Sunday evening, January 19, 1997 at his residence. He was a retired barber, beginning his career in New Milford in 1938. Mr. Belfiore had a life long love of singing and entertaining, both in his church and in his community. He was a member of Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church in New Milford, and attended Our Lady of Nazareth Church in Roanoke. Mr. Belfiore was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Order of the Alhambra. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary G. Belfiore, and is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Mardi Belfiore and Paul Brooks, Roanoke; two sons and daughters-in-law, Roger and Jo Ann Belfiore, Brookfield, Conn., Mark and Suzanne Belfiore, Boulder, Colo.; two grandsons, Todd and Andrew Belfiore; a brother, Paul Belfiore; two sisters, Pam Belfiore, Gladys Milardo, all of Connecticut; and a number of nieces and nephews. CROUSE, Elmer Graham, 84, of Marion, died Monday morning, January 20, 1997, in the Smyth County Community Hospital. He was born in S myth County on February 25, 1912, the son of the late William A. and Minnie Fox Crouse. He was retired from Union Carbide Corporation of Oak Ridge, Tenn., and formerly resided in the Farragut area of West Knoxville, Tenn. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Pedigo Crouse; one son, Bane Crouse Price of Layton, Utah; one daughter, Estelle Bluhm of Knoxville, Tenn.; three brothers, James W. Crouse of Roanoke, Arnold I. Crouse of Roanoke, and Algie G. Crouse of Marion; five grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. DAVIS, Arthur D., 71, of Avon Park, Fla. died Friday, January 17, 1997 at his residence. He was born in Callaway, Va., and later move to Ohio. He moved to Florida in 1962 and retired from the U.S. Navy after 23 years of service in 1966 becoming a Correctional Officer for the State of Florida and retired from A.P.C.I. after 20 years of service in 1986. He was a member of the American Legion Post #69, Avon Park; V.F.W. Post #9853, Avon Park; Arcadia Lodge #66, F & A.M., Arcadia, Fla. He is survived by his mother, Cora L. Branecky, Roanoke; two sons, Arthur D. Davis Jr., Rocky Mount, John L. Davis, Avon Park, Fla.; two daughters, Audrey J. Cloud, Avon Park and Angela D. White, Avon Park; brother, Troy D. Mrs. Haywood was born in Willowton, W.Va. on September 11, 1922, a nd was the daughter of the late Robert Jonathan and Nellie Melvin Meadows. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Allen Haywood; and a son, Kelly Meadows. She was a member of the Glen Lyn Church of Christ at Glen Lyn. She is survived by a son, Kenneth Eugene Haywood of Glen Lyn; a special companion, Edward A. Hughes of Glen Lyn; three sisters, Minnie Phillips and Clatie Pennington, both of Rich Creek, and Ival Maynard of Williamson, W.Va.; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. HUFF, Charles Walter, a lifelong resident of Christiansburg, died at home with his family the evening of Saturday, January 18, 1997, at the age of 84. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 62 years, Reva Spence Huff. JOHNSTON, Winnie Brotherton, 86, of Pearisburg, died Sunday evening, January 19, 19 97, at her home. Mrs. Johnston was born on April 26, 1910 in Giles County, and was a daughter of the late Rufus Haines and Essie Johnston Brotherton. Mrs. Johnston was also preceded in death by her husband, Julius H. Johnston; and a sister, Sarah B. Lafon. Mrs. Johnston was a member of the Wesley Chapel Methodist Church in Trigg. She is survived by one sister, Ross B. Croy of Pearisburg; one nephew, W. P. MERRILL, David L., 71, of Route 1, Box 144, Hiwassee, died Saturday, January 18, 1997, at his home. He was born in Alabama on March 30, 1925, and was the son of the late Robert L. Merrill and Addie Smith Merrill. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Bob Merrill; and by three sisters, Henri H. Yeatman, Martha Seward, and Pat Mansuy. Mr. Merrill was a veteran, having served in the United States Army during World War II, and he participated in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a current member of the Pulaski County PSA and a former member of the Pulaski County Board of Supervisors from 1980 until 1984. Mr. Merrill was a retired Associate Professor of Chemistry at Radford University, having about 35 years of service. He received his Chemistry Degree from the University of Virginia and his Masters Degree from VPI & SU. Surviving are several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. from the Stevens Funeral Chapel, Pulaski, with the Rev. David Coffey officiating. The family will receive friends after the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family wishes that memorials be made to the charity of one's choice. SKEEN, Evelyn Flora, 40, of Rocky Mount, was gathered peacefully into the arms of our Lord Jesus at the home of her parents on Monday, January 20, 1997. She was the beloved wife of Donald Skeen, and devoted mother of Kristin Skeen, Jenny and Bill John, Kim and Patrick Kirtner. She was a loving daughter to Bennie and Ruth Flora, and a precious sister to Renae and Roger McBride, Kathy Carter, Donna and H. D. Woody and Angela and Bill Corn. Evelyn delighted in her nieces and nephews, Steven, Benjie, and Christina McBride, Justin Carter, Dallas and Stephanie Woody, Brittany, Aaron and Jessica Corn; other special family members are brother-in-law, Larry Skeen, and his children; sister-in-law, Barbara and Junior Gibson, and their children; stepson, Jason and Stephanie and their daughter. Evelyn had many special friends whom she loved dearly that will always remember her. Evelyn was born on April 16, 1956 and grew up in Franklin County. She graduated from Franklin County High School in 1974 and attended Ferrum College and Radford University. She spent many years as a math teacher at Pulaski County High School, later becoming a State Farm Insurance Agent in Dublin, Va., and most recently moved to Chesterfield to become an Agent Consultant. Evelyn began her christian life at Germantown Brick Church of the Brethren in Rocky Mount , and was currently a member of Dublin United Methodist Church. Evelyn received a liver transplant and was an avid promoter of the organ donor program. Special contributions in Evelyn's memory could include the signing of an organ donor card, along with letting your loved ones know your wishes, donating blood, or platelets for others needing them, and a contribution to the American Cancer Society. Funeral services will be conducted from Germantown Brick Church of the Brethren, 11 a.m. Wednesday, with Pastor Bruce Huffman and the Rev. Richard Patterson officiating.
