BEVERLY, Queenie W., 87, of Roanoke passed away Thursday, January 16, 1997. Survivors include one daughter, Claudine (``Julius"") Cheek; two grandchildren, Darlene and Darrell Cheek; one great-grandchild, Malita Mondria Fulp; one niece, Velma Hopkins Penn, all of Winston-Salem, N.C.; two nephews, Luther Watson Jr. of Roanoke, Willie Penn of Charlotte, N.C.; a devoted niece and nephew, Willie Mae and Robert K. Ingram of Roanoke; and several other relatives and friends. EDEN, Dr. James Arthur Jr., 60, of Pembroke, died Monday, January 20, 1997, at his home. Surviving are his wife, Nancy Lester Eden; two daughters, Michelle Andrea Eden of Pembroke and Karen Eden Szabo of Pittsburgh, Pa.; one son, Dr. Bernard V. Eden of Danville; one grandson, Jonathan Alexander Eden of Danville; one brother, Don Ede n of Tennessee; four sisters, Monterey Huskey of Michigan, Glenda Yearly of Tennessee, and Etta Downing and Frances Eden, both of Florida, and a special aunt, Glessie Edens of Tennessee. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, January 23, at the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home Chapel, Christiansburg, conducted by Ms. Donna Douglas, with burial in the Den Hill Cemetery. FLINCHUM, Julia Mildred, 77, of Cloverdale, entered into rest Monday, January 20, 1997. She was born October 6, 1919 and was the daughter of the late James Thomas and Dora Katherine Collins. She is survived by her two sons, (Retired Major) Thomas Flinchum and his wife Dorothy Carol Berry of Daleville and Doug Flinchum, who was residing with his mother in Cloverdale. Surviving their grandmother are Tammy Keith of Roanoke and Monica Collins of West Palm Beach, Fla. She is also survived by several great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews who have been like children and grandchildren, who lovingly referred to her as ``Grandma Midge"". Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 23, 1997, at the Rader Daleville Chapel, with the Rev. Dewey Page, the Rev. Kip Keith, the Rev. James Harris and the Rev. Steve Hall officiating. Readings will be by Glenna and Andy Holley and the Eulogy by Cindy LaPrad. Pallbearers are Bruce Collins, Gary Collins, Chad Rickman, Leon Hall, Kevin Bushong and Dean West. Interment will follow in the Garden of the Last Supper at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. HALL, Denton R., 90, of Christiansburg, passed away on Monday, January 20, 1997, at Columbia Montgomery Regional Hospital. A member of the Christiansburg Pentecostal Holiness Church, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Darrell Long; three brothers; and five sisters. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Helen Beatrice Dallas Hall; four daughters and sons-in-law, Sarah and Bane Coburn, Betty and Rayburn Poff, all of Roanoke, Mary and Lynwood Butterworth, Doris and Denny Vest, all of Christiansburg; six grandsons; one granddaughter; one stepgrandson; eight great-grandchildren; and one special niece, Carolyn Martin.. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 23, at the Christiansburg Pentecostal Holiness Church conducted by Rev. Richard Kingrea and Rev. Jack L. HOWARD, Lynette Oakes, 46, of Pelham, Ala., died Monday, January 20, 1997. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Oakes of Salem. She was a member of North Shelby Baptist Church, Birmingham, Ala., a real estate agent with First Real Estate, Birmingham, Ala. She was a 1968 graduate of Andrew Lewis High School, Salem, and a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University. Surviving are her husband, Larry Howard; sister, Mrs. Barbara Oakes Chenault, Blacksburg. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, January 24, 1997, at John M. POOLE, Ruth Louise Reese, 77, of Salem, died Monday, January 20, 1997. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Salem and was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-two years, George Edward Poole. Survivors include a daughter, Ruth Bates, Salem; a granddaughter, Sar ah Bates, Salem; sisters, Edith ``Roxie'' Barrett, Goodview, Mary Bowers, Salem; and special sisters-in-law, Lou Kelly, Salem, Edna Harber, Nashville, Tenn., Marguerite Utter, Virginia Beach. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 23, 1997 at 11 a.m. in the John M. Oakey and Son Chapel in Salem with the Reverend Wayne W. McCauley officiating. SAWYER, Judson R., (``Buzz''), 80, of Roanoke, died Monday, January 20, 1997. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. Mr. Sawyer retired as a parts and service supervisor from Magic City Ford. Surviving are his wife, Evelyn Martin Sawyer; a son, Kenneth E. (``Buzz'') Sawyer, Little River, S.C.; a grandson, Kenneth E. Sawyer Jr.; and a sister, Jean Robinson, Roanoke. TABOR, Frank Audney, 82, of 2015 Virginia Ave., Bluefield, Va., died Monday, January 20, 1997, in a Bluefield hospital. He was born in Tazewell County, and was a son of the late Robert Walton Tabor and Pearl Scott Tabor. He was a retired supervisor for Betsy Ross Bakery after 43 years of service. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bluefield, Va., and was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Witt Tabor; one son, Robert Kelly Tabor; brother, Dutch Tabor; and sister, Reba Fox. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Frank Larry and Rebecca W. Tabor, Roanoke; daughter and son-in-law, Suzie Tabor Holbrook and Ken Holbrook, N. Tazewell; special friends, Dorothy Porshia, Bluefield, W.Va., Wanda Martin and children, Bluefield, W.Va.; daughter-in-law, Mae Kennedy Tabor, Bristol, Va.; sister, Betty Tabor Morgan, Roanoke; grandchildren, Tim Tabor, Tammy Evans, Tina Cruz, Tonya Patterson, Steve Rolen, Stephanie Rolen Arnett and Susan Rolen; eleven great-grandchildren. VEST, William Howard, 76, of Hollins, passed away Monday, January 20, 1997. He is survived by his wife, Mildred E. Vest; son and daughter-in-law, William Michael and Laura Vest; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Woody Humphreys; sister, Elizabeth Vest Snodgrass; brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Barbara Vest; two grandsons, Robert W. WILLS, Cecil Malcolm, 69, of Midlothian, died Tuesday, January 21, 1997 at his residence. Born January 28, 1927 in Buena Vista, he was the son of the late Thomas L. and Eva McElroy Wills. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy, having served during World War II. He was preceded in death by his wives, Rosina Saisi Wills and Ruby L. Wills. H e is survived by his daughters, Cecilia W. Holliday and Jean W. Spruill; his grandchildren, Paul F. Wills and Adrianna Holliday, all of Midlothian; three brothers, Randolph Wills of Canton, N.C., John Calvin Wills of Virginia Beach and Fred Lewis Wills of Lexington. The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, January 23, 1997, at the Lomax Funeral Home Chapel, with interment in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Norfolk, Va.
