More than 30 people have been indicted on more than 70 drug charges in Wythe County, a Sheriff's Office spokesman said Wednesday.
Most of the indictments involved distribution of drugs, including crack cocaine, cocaine hydrochloride, methamphetamine, marijuana and LSD, Capt. Keith Dunagan said. He said it is unusual for a drug sweep to cover such a variety of illegal drugs.
"This time we got a little bit of everything," he said.
The undercover operation started about a year ago, with members of Sheriff Wayne Pike's department joining with the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, the federal Drug Enforcement Administrationand Virginia State Police, Dunagan said.
Undercover law enforcement people began making buys, he said, and moving from one drug group to another. "This time it really got spread out."
