Two bombs that exploded outside an Atlanta abortion clinic last week were made from dynamite, which is rarely used in homemade bombs.
CBS News reported Wednesday that unnamed sources say the explosives were ``high grade commercial dynamite.''
The New York Times reported today that the bomber used 10 to 20 sticks of dynamite in each bomb.
The first bomb Jan. 16 blew a hole in a clinic wall. As police officers and emergency medical personnel flooded the area, a second explosive went off in an adjoining parking lot, injuring six people who had responded to the first bomb.
The second bomb was packed in a metal military-style box that also held nails designed to spew shrapnel over the area.
Dynamite, which is made by just one company in Utah, ``seldom falls into criminal hands. It is seldom used in bombs,'' Christopher Ronay, president of the Institute of Makers of Explosives and a former FBI chief of explosives, told the Times.
