Construction of a 65,000-square-foot shell industrial building in Botetourt County's Vista Corporate Park is expected to begin next month, the Botetourt County Industrial Development Authority said Wednesday. Avis Construction Co. of Roanoke has been given the contract.
The building should be completed by summer, the IDA said. Marketing of the building by the Roanoke Valley Economic Development Partnership and the Virginia Economic Development Partnership is to begin in four to six weeks, said Beth Doughty, executive director of the Roanoke organization.
The building is one of two new shells that will be on the market this year. The other will be on U.S. 460 East in Roanoke County.
Tim Gubala, director of economic development there, said that building is about three months behind the one in Botetourt. The Roanoke County building will be 75,000 square feet, expandable to 150,000 square feet.
The Botetourt building will be finished to 75 percent so the industry that buys it can install its own floor, utility connections, offices and heating and air conditioning, the IDA said.
The IDA is securing a $958,000 construction loan from a consortium of banks, including Crestar, the Bank of Botetourt and the Bank of Fincastle.
The building, expandable to more than 200,000 square feet, will be on 18 acres with a railroad spur next to the new A.O. Smith Automotive Products Co., the IDA said.
