ALLMAN, Nannie Cash, 79, of Bedford, and formerly of Natural Bridge, passed away W ednesday, January 22, 1997, in the Burrell Nursing Home. She was born April 19, 1917 in Rockbridge County, a daughter of the late Robert Cash and Mammie McDaniel Cash. Her husband was the late Howard Allman. She was a retired registered nurse. She is survived by two nieces and their husbands, Melba C. and J. Warren Craig, Bedford, Bettie C. and Charles Hess, Forest; a nephew and his wife, Jack C. and Wanda Cash, Goodview; several other nieces and nephews; four great-nieces, April M. Craig, Katlyn R. Craig, Traci A. Newman, Michelle Kaiser; two great-nephews, Eddie R. Newman, Jimmy Cash; several other great-nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted Saturday, January 25, 1997, at 11 a.m. from the Natural Bridge Baptist Church Cemetery by the Rev. Kenneth Lafon. There will be no viewing or visitation at the funeral home. The family requests that those wishing to make memorials consider their favorite charity. BISHOP, Blanche Mason Age 86, of Roanoke, died Wednesday, January 22, 1997 in a Salem Hospital. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and was a retired Commercial Supervisor with C & P. Telephone Company with 38 years service. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Electa Chapter No. 33, a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Elks Club and a member of the Telephone Company Pioneers of America. Surviving are her husband, Wallace R. (Rip) Bishop of Roanoke; son and daughter-in-law Fred and Elizabeth Stanley of Wytheville; two grandchildren, Frederick Mark Stanley of Wytheville; Ann Stanley Agerton of Fairhope, Ala; one great-grandson Bradley Agerton of Fairhope Ala; one step-sister, Margaret Ingram of Roanoke; three half-sisters, Dorothy Hollett of Roanoke; Helen McKalips of Maneheim, Pa; Elizabeth Moyers of Harrisonburg; one half brother, John R. CAMPBELL, Robert Dexter, 82, of Salem, passed away Wednesday, January 22, 1997. He was preceded in death by his parents, James A. and Fonnie A. Campbell. He was one of the earlier aviators, a member of the Silver Wings Fraternity and the Flying Eagles. He was the Assistant Manager of Woodrum Field for seven years, and retired from the Norfolk & Western Railroad as a Locomotive Engineer. He was a member of the NRA, Legion of Honor, and was in the 5th Division of the U.S.M.C. during World War II. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Juanita M. Campbell; two daughters and son-in-law, Joan and Richard Handran, Glade Hill, Sandra Acson, Falls Church. The family will receive friends 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Lotz Salem Chapel. A funeral mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Salem, by Father Gregory R. Kandt, with burial in Sherwood Memorial Park

DAVIS, Erna P., 90, of Glade Hill, died Thursday morning, January 23, 1997 in the local hospital. She was the widow of Silas S. Davis and was preceded in death by her father and mother, Charles W. and Lucinda Fisher Perdue; a son, Arthur Davis; grandson, Edward Young; three brothers; and one sister. Surviving are three daughters and two sons-in-law, Rachel and Frank Cooper, Chester, Mildred Johnson, Sue and Cecil Bower, all of Glade Hill; one son and two daughters-in-law, Marlen and Linda Davis, Glade Hill, Mary Davis, Basset; eighteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; ten great-great-grandchildren; three nieces and one nephew. Funeral services will be conducted from Oak Hill Old German Baptist Church, 11 a.m. Saturday with the Home Brethren officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. DOOLEY, Annie Mitz, of Roanoke, passed away Wednesday, January 22, 1997. Mrs. Dooley was a daughter of the late Feodor V. and Ekaterina Swec Mitz. Surviving are her husband, Pete C. Dooley; her daughter and son-in-law, Mitzi Dooley and husband Les, of Bowling Green, Ky.; grandchildren, Thomas Dooley and Ann Mitz Dooley; her sister, Mary Mayo, of Norfolk, Va.; also surviving are several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at Lotz Roanoke Chapel, 10 a.m. Saturday, January 25, 1997 with Rev. Walter L. Wood officiating. FRANCISCO, Theodore Braxton, 81, of Petersburg, passed away Wednesday, January 22, 1997. Born in Botetourt Co., he was a resident of Petersburg for the past 13 years. He attended the brethren church and was an Army veteran of World War II. He is survived by his wife, Geneva B. Francisco; sons and daughters-in-law, Garland and Shirley Francisco, Salem, Jerry and Essie Francisco, Pennsville, N. J.; daughters and sons-in-law, Anita and Andrew Furrow, Petersburg, Tracy and Tom Baker, Petersburg; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews; brothers and sisters, W. FUNCK, Robert Goade, Jr. 42, of Roanoke, passed away Thursday, January 23, 1997. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Goade Funck, Sr., and is survived by his mother, Helen W. HORTON, Dorothy Marie, 57, of Hillsville, passed away Wednesday, January 22, 1997, in Blue Ridge Highlands Nursing Home, Galax. She was born September 21, 1939 in Galax. She is survived by her mother, Virgie A. Barak, Hillsville; brother Kenneth L. Thomas, Edgewater, Md. HOWARD, Lynette Oakes, 46, of Pelham, Ala., died Monday, January 20, 1997. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Oakes of Salem. She was a member of North Shelby Baptist Church, Birmingham, Ala., a real estate agent with First Real Estate, Birmingham, Ala. She was a 1968 graduate of Andrew Lewis High School, Salem, and a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University. Surviving are her husband, Larry Howard; sister, Mrs. Barbara Oakes Chenault, Blacksburg. Her brother, Mr. Michael Oakes, Birmingham, Ala; and her niece, Jill Bain of Salem, Va. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, January 24, 1997, at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home Chapel, Salem, with burial in Sherwood Memorial Park. JOHNSON, Ada Creasey, 95, of Buena Vista, died Wednesday, January 22, 1997, in the Shenandoah Valley Health Care Ce nter, Buena Vista. Mrs. Johnson was born on May 18, 1901 in Bedford County, and was the daughter of the late Samuel H. Creasey and Elza Overstreet Creasey. She was a member of the Falling Spring Presbyterian Church, Glasgow. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce J. Shepherd. Mrs. Johnson is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles Glenn Jr. and Virginia Johnson, Roanoke, Sam M. and Betty Johnson, Buena Vista; one daughter and son-in-law, Jean J. and George Adkins, Glasgow; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted from the graveside in the Falling Spring Presbyterian Cemetery, Glasgow, on Saturday, January 25, 1997, at 11 a.m. with Rev. H. Middleton Raynal and Rev. William K. LIVELY, James Oliver, (``Pete''), 56, of Radford, passed away Thursday, January 23, 1997. He was a self-employed electrician, and was a member of Local Union #637 IBEW, and a member of the Belview United Methodist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, and a member of VFW Post #1184 of Pulaski, New River Chapter #138 of the Vietnam Veterans, and was a member of the Christiansburg DAV. Survivors include his wife, Betty T. Lively of Radford; his mother, Nettie Boone Lively of Radford; one son, James David Lively of Radford; one daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth L. and Cort Via of Aurora, Colo.; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Zelda and Leslie Boyd of Dublin, Arleta and Robert Boyd and Betty and Ernest ``Bud'' Craft, both of Radford; four grandchildren, James Michael Lively, Courtney Michelle Lively, Jessica Danille Lively, and Olivia Jane Via; special friends, Nelson Ward and Jessie Correll. PAGANS, Frances English, 87, of Wirtz, went to be with her Lord Thursday, January 23, 1997. Born September 7, 1909, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Nannie Bett Williams English. She was preceded in death by her husband, Pete Lawson Pagans Sr.; two sons, Ervin S. Pagans and Mearl Pagans; one daughter, Ruby Lillian Holland; and grandson, Jube Lee Holland; three great-granddaughters, Monica Lynne Pagans, Ashley Pagans, Jenny Holland; six brothers; and four sisters. REED, Victor W., 85, of 1732 Spottswood Place, Lynchburg, died Thursday, January 16, 1997, at Virginia Baptist Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Frances C. Reed; a daughter, Vicki R. Franklin; and four grandchildren, Deborah Averett, Philip Ayers Jr., Lindsay Ayers, and Travis Ayers of Lynchburg; a stepson and wife, Robert and Lorraine Ayres; and three stepgrandchildren and families of Tampa, Fla.; a stepgranddaughter and child of Elkhart, Ind.; a stepgrandson and child of Wichita Falls, Texas; a sister, Geneva Webster of Salem; many nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. He was a member of Union United Methodist Church of Thaxton, which he served faithfully for many years. He worked for the Norfolk and Western Railway for 45 years and was a dedicated employee. His body was donated, at his request, to medical science for study and research. A memorial service will be held at Union United Methodist Church on Saturday, January 25, 1997, at 2 p.m., conducted by his pastor, Rev. Lee Chattin, and his dear friend, Rev. Philip Ayers.

ROBERTSON, Alton Reese, 92, of Wirtz, passed away Thursday, January 23, 1997. Born October 30, 1904, he was a son of the late Jacob Henry and Nannie Oyler Robertson. Mr. Robertson went to work August 15, 1925, working for Roanoke Railway & Electric Co., drove a streetcar, then drove the bus for Safety Motor Transit, where he retired from in 1971 after 46 years of service. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Perdue Robertson; six brothers, Vogie E., John, James, Berkley, Woodrow, Clyde Robertson; one sister, Rowena Robertson. Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Freddie and Jerri Robertson of Martinsville; two grandchildren, Cindy R. Varney and Charles Alton Robertson, both of Powells Point, N.C.; four great-grandchildren, Kelly Elizabeth Robertson, Andra Nicole Robertson, Heather Laura Hagler, Lee Alfred Varney, all of Powells Point, N.C.; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, January 26, 1997, at Lynch Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Bruce Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in the Robertson Family Cemetery. Survivors include two daughters, Marie Savage, Amston, Conn., Lillian Schieman, Floyd; three sons, Andrew Saltus, Cromwell, Conn., William Saltus, Colchester, Conn., Christopher Saltus, Floyd; one sister, Evelyn Saltus, East Hampton, Conn.; 18 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. SIMPSON, Clyd e James Sr., 77, of 200 Old Church Rd., Low Moor, died Thursday, January 23, 1997, at the Columbia Alleghany Regional Hospital. He was born in Low Moor on December 26, 1919, son of the late Ervin Dickey and Isabelle Frances Moody Simpson. He was a retired loader for Westvaco with 36 years of service, a member and elder of the Low Moor Presbyterian Church, and served in the Civilian Conservation Corp. He is survived by his wife, Sabra Musgrove Simpson of Low Moor; three daughters and sons-in-law, Judith (Judy) and Jack Lienhardt Jr. of Salem, Patricia (Pat) and O. E. (Bud) Shires of Eagle Rock, and Katherine (Kitty) and Joseph Hoke of Low Moor; one son, Clyde James (Jimmy) and Rebecca Simpson of Low Moor; one sister, Ella Marie Mundy of Springwood; one brother, Douglas Simpson of Clifton Forge; six grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. SMITH, Ella Jane, 51, of Thaxton, died Thursday, January 23, 1997 at Lynchburg General Hospital. Born in Campbell County February 9, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Norman (Nonnie) A. Smith, Jr. and Sally Lincoln Smith. Survivors include a son, Norman Viar and daughter-in-law, Angie Brown of Evington; a daughter, Audrey Wimer of Roseland; a grandson, Rhett Viar Brown of Evington; and a devoted companion, Eugene Orange of Thaxton. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, January 25, 1997, at Byrum-Parr Funeral Home, with burial in Amherst Cemetery. SNYDER, Norma Berger, 75, of Fincastle, died Thursday, January 23, 1997. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary, VFW Post #1841, and is survived by her husband, Walter H. Snyder; one son and daughter-in-law, Raymond T. and Joanne Snyder, all of Fincastle; two grandsons, Tim T. and wife, Lynn Snyder, Scott A. Snyder. A graveside service will be held 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 28, 1997 at the Forest Hills Memorial Park in Reading, Penn. The Rev. Malinda Carlson will be officiating. STRICKLER, Millard Pilson, 92, of Lexington, died Thursday, January 23, 1997, at the Sunnyside Presbyterian Retirement Community in Harrisonburg. A native of Rockbridge County, he was born December 20, 1904. He was the son of the late Robert A. and Julia A. Strickler. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Shaner Strickler. A lifelong educator in Virginia, he served as principal of four schools in Rockbridge County and southwest Virginia before becoming principal of Oceana High School in Princess Anne County (which became Virginia Beach in 1962). In 1954, he was promoted to assistant superintendent of schools, the position from which he retired in 1969. Two years later he became assistant head master of the upper school at Huguenot Academy in Powhatan, remaining in that post for five years. In 1982, he moved to Lexington and then to Sunnyside in 1991. He was a 1927 graduate of Hampden-Sydney College and earned his master's in education from the University of Virginia. In Virginia Beach, he helped organize the Virginia Beach Kiwanis Club and served as its president in 1958. He was both a deacon and elder in the First Presbyterian Church, where he was superintendent of the Sunday School and president of the Men's Bible Class. He was also chairman of the board of directors of the Atlantic Mental Hygiene Center for two years and served on the board of directors of the Crippled Childrens' Society. In Lexington, he was a member of the Lexington Presbyterian Church and the Kiwanis Club. He is survived by three sons, Edmund of Livingston, Texas, Stephen of Virginia Beach, and Michael of Lexington; one grandson; five granddaughters; and one great-granddaughter. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 25, 1997, at noon in the chapel of the Lexington Presbyterian Church with Dr. William M. Klein officiating. The family will receive friends at the home of Michael and Doris Strickler, 630 Stonewall Street, Lexington, following the service. THORNTON, Dorothy Morrison, 76, of Narrows, died Friday, January 17, 1997, in the Montgomery Regional Hospital in Blacksburg. A lifelong resident of Giles County, she was born at Ri ch Creek on December 10, 1920, and was the daughter of the late Benjamine and Margaret Cecil Morrison. She was preceded in death by her husband, Felix H. Thornton; two brothers, Paul Morrison and Walter Morrison; and two sisters, Bernice Wood and Mae Candler. She is survived by a son, Gary L. Thornton of Narrows; four sisters, Pauline Fox of Ansted, W.Va., Mary Buckland, Rich Creek, Hazel Williams, Atlanta, Ga., Geneva Defio, Rich Creek; two grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Riffe's Funeral Service in Narrows with Rev. Kimball Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Thornton Family Cemetery on Wolf Creek, near Narrows. Friends may call at the funeral home after noon on Friday. The family will gather with their friends at Riffe's in Narrows Friday from 6 to 9 p.m.

WEBSTER, Aires Shelton, Jr., of Smith Mountain Lake, was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was born in Roanoke, Va. on September 22, 1919 and died at the family home at Smith Mountain Lake on Thursday, January 23, 1997. He was a son of the late Ayers Shelton Webster, Sr. and Kate Maggie Milton Webster. He was preceded in death by a sister, Nellie Webster Carney, a brother, Cecil Daniel Webster and a granddaughter, Susan Marie Webster. He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Dorothy Roberta Willett Webster; a daughter and son-in-law, Carol W. and Robert Beishir; a son and daughter-in-law, David Ayers Webster and Sandra Howell Webster; a daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie Lou Webster Clingenpeel and Robert Lee Clingenpeel; three brothers, Given Boyd Webster, Leslie Milton Webster and William W. Webster; a sister, Juanita Webster Jennings. He is also survived by grandson, Timothy Wayne Reedy and his wife, Dannette Mowles Reedy, granddaughter, Jennifer Jo Beishir, granddaughter, Christine Rene Lindsay and her husband, John Gregory Lindsay, grandson, Mark David Webster and his wife, Jessy Lynn Labradores Webster, grandson, Neal Matthew Clingenpeel and his wife, Teresa Clingenpeel, grandson Johnathan Lee Clingenpeel; granddaughters, Ashley Jeanne Webster, Jennifer Lynn Webster, Eli zabeth Anne Poff and her husband, Douglass Poff; great-granddaughters, Magan Renee Reedy, Dorothy Lynn Webster and Sarah Ann Clingenpeel; great-grandsons, David Nathaniel Webster and Joseph Mark Webster. Mr. Webster was a much appreciated and faithful employee, and later became proprietor of Virginia Armature Company of Roanoke for 58 years. He was a Pilgrim, the highest degree given by the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge and was a member of Trinity Ecumenical Parish, Moneta. Mr. Webster was one of the Founding Fathers of the Toys for Tots Program, still serving children through the United States Marine Corps. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, January 25, 1997, at Resurrection Catholic Church, Moneta, with Pastor Gary K. Scheidt of Trinity Ecumenical Parish officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday at Carder-Tharp Funeral Home, Bedford.

WHITE, James Malo 83, of Roanoke, died Wednesday, January 22, 1997 in Greenville, S.C. He graduated from The Webb School and attended Washington & Lee University. Mr. White joined W.W. Boxley Company as a Salesman in 1956 and retired in 1993 as Executive Vice-President of Blue Ridge Stone Corporation and Trego Stone Corporation. He was Vice-President of Martinsville Stone Corporation and had served on the Board of Pounding Mill Quarry Corporation and continued serving on the Board of Directors of W.W. Boxley Company. He served on the Board of Directors and was Chairman of the Audit Committee of Colonial American National Bank and also served on the Board of North Cross School. He was a member of the Shenandoah Club, the Roanoke Country Club and St. John's Episcopal Church. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Boxley White and is survived by his wife Sue Penn White, his daughters, Ellen Wilson White of Howardsville, Va; Frances White Fitzgerald of St. Mary's Ga; Virginia White Albert of Norfolk; his granddaughter, Sara Margaret Malo Heischober of St. Mary's Ga; his step-children Ruth Hamlin Eggleston of Richmond; William Penn Hamlin of Lynchburg; Fred Eugene Hamlin III, of Newnan, Ga. Funeral service will be held at St. John Episcopal Church Saturday, January 25, 1997 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Thomas O'Dell and the Rev. Frank Allen officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest that memorials be made to St. John's Episcopal Church or a charity of one's choice. The family will receive friends Friday, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel.

WIGINTON, Martha E. Barger, 59, of 702 Partridge Drive, Erie, Pa., died Wednesday, January 22, 1997, at Saint Vincent Health Center, Erie, Pa. following a brief illness. She was born July 30, 1937 in Lex ington, a daughter of the late Rush Alton and Mattie Elizabeth Fix Barger. She enjoyed collecting antiques and wrote poetry. She is survived by two daughters, Shannon G. and Mary Gaelyn Wiginton, both of Erie; two brothers, Winfred K. Barger, Carthage, N.C. and Laurence G. Barger, Pueblo West, Colo.; and one sister, Mary Ann Shaner, Natural Bridge. Also surviving are nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Gray Wiginton; and two brothers, Junior and Calvin K. Barger. Friends may call at the John R. Orlando Funeral Home, 2122 Raspberry Street, Erie, Pa. 16502, Friday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m., and are invited to attend a service there on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. with the Rev. Roy P. Washill officiating. Interment will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
