General Electric's engineering services business, part of its Motors and Industrial Systems Division in Salem, is creating a 30-employee call-in center to provide customers with technical assistance.
The operation, to open April 2, will be housed at GE's partially closed plant on Fourth Street in Salem's west end, the company said Friday.
GE doesn't know yet how many will be new hires, spokesman Mike Allee said, because some employees from the Industrial Systems plant on Roanoke Boulevard will be transferred to the center.
The center will operate every day, 24 hours a day. It will be staffed by experienced GE engineers who will work with customers to solve their equipment-related problems, Allee said.
