'Structure' exhibit opens at museum
An exhibit exploring the relationship between engineering and architecture is being featured at the Virginia Museum of Transportation beginning today and running through April 5.
The exhibit, called "Structures," will focus on bridge construction. It was created by the Franklin Institute Science Museum and has appeared in cities around the world.
Visitors will be able to learn about basic engineering principles through models, graphics, photos and drawings. Workshops, lectures and a bus tour are also planned.

Hungry Mother Arts and Crafts Festival
Feb. 1 is the deadline for entries in the annual Hungry Mother Arts and Crafts Festival, which will be held July 18-20 at Hungry Mother State Park in Marion.
About 125 artists and artisans will be accepted. Forms traditionally exhibited are tinware, macrame, gourd craft, blacksmithing, pottery, carved lucite, batik, glassblowing, furniture, toys, musical instruments, weaving, basketmaking, needlework, quilts, stained glass, oil paintings, watercolors, sculpture and photography. M.L. King Jr.'s daughter at W&L
Yolanda King, the daughter of slain civil rights leader the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., is speaking at Washington and Lee University on Monday at 8 p.m. in Lee Chapel. King's visit to the campus is sponsored by the Minority Student Association and kicks off the university's celebration of Black History Month.
