THOR INC. NAMES PRESIDENT

JAMES B. BRADSHAW has been named president of Thor Inc., a Roanoke firm of general contractors and engineers. He succeeds JOHN P. WHITTLE, who will remain chief executive officer and chairman of the board.

Bradshaw has been with Thor Inc. for 20 years, having been vice president of the company for 14 years and chief operations officer since 1990. He will continue his duties as chief operations officer.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

The Bedford Area Chamber of Commerce has elected officers and directors for 1997: STEPHEN DOWNIE, vice president of First Citizens Bank, president; JUDI NOEL, owner of Frederick's Flowers, first vice president; MEG SPURRIER, property manager of Shoreline Realty, second vice president; and BARBARA RING, executive director of the Bedford Area Chamber of Commerce, secretary-treasurer.

New board members elected for three-year terms are HOWARD AINSLEY, director of Carilion Bedford Memorial Hospital; JOHN DAVIS, marketing director of Carriage Hill Retirement Center; STEVE FULLERTON, partner in Brown, Edwards & Co.; MIKE TRUSSELL, vice president of Bedford Federal Savings Bank; and DONNIE WALKER, superintendent of Blue Ridge Stone.

FINANCIAL SERVICES

CHUCK WATSON has joined the Roanoke office of Interstate/Johnson Lane as a financial consultant. Before joining the Charlotte, N.C.-based brokerage firm, he was a manager for Leggett department stores.

HEALTH CARE

ELDON LANE NELSON has been appointed dean of instruction and student services for the College of Health Sciences in Roanoke. He comes to the college from Tarpon Springs, Fla., where he was acting associate dean of academic affairs and medical education consultant for the Florida College of Osteopathic Medicine.

DR. SAM SAMARASINGHE has joined the Roanoke Pain Center, where he will specialize in lower back pain. Samarasinghe, a native of Sri Lanka, has been in medical practice for 21 years at the Saint Vincent Health Center in Erie, Pa. His board certifications include Diplomate, American Board of Anesthesiology; Diplomate, American Academy of Pain Management; and a certificate for added qualifications from the American Board of Anesthesiology.

HOSPITALITY

CHRISTINE HENDERSON has been named assistant general manager of the AmeriSuites Hotel near Valley View Mall in Roanoke. Henderson has been in the hospitality and lodging industry for 12 years, including serving as general manager of the Comfort Inn in Blacksburg. JENNIFER GRIM has been named sales coordinator at the hotel. She comes to AmeriSuites from Wytheville, where she was sales manager of the Ramada Inn. GLORIA HOLDREN ANDERSON has been hired as director of sales at AmeriSuites. She has been in the hotel business for 20 years, most recently as director of sales at the Holiday Inn-Central in Lynchburg.

INSURANCE

JASON PETERS has joined the Roanoke-Smith General Agency of John Hancock Financial Services as a marketing representative specializing in long-term care coverage.

LAW

The Roanoke law firm of Woods, Rogers & Hazlegrove has named CAROLE M. AGEE, THOMAS R. BAGBY, VICTOR O. CARDWELL, THOMAS J. HALL and MARK D. LOFTIS principals in the firm. Agee joined Woods, Rogers in 1990 and practices in the areas of medical malpractice defense, health professions regulatory and environmental law. Bagby, who joined the firm in 1995, practices in the area of labor and employment law.

Cardwell joined the firm in 1991 and practices in the areas of labor and employment and sports law. Hall, who is a certified public accountant in Kentucky and Virginia, joined the firm in 1984. He practices mainly in the areas of international, federal, state and local taxation and domestic and international mergers and acquisitions. Loftis joined Woods, Rogers in 1989 and practices primarily in the areas of products liability and insurance defense litigation.

The Roanoke Valley Paralegal Association has elected officers for 1997: DEBORAH ELIG, Virginia Title Center, president; ROSE MARIE DUDLEY, Conflict Resolution Center, vice president; MANDY BELUE, Woods, Rogers & Hazlegrove, secretary; and CASEY DUGAN, Flippin, Densmore, Morse, Rutherford & Jessee, treasurer.

MEDIA

VINCE MILLER has joined the sales department of K92 (WXLK-FM) as an account executive. Miller has been with the Roanoke radio station since it was founded in 1980, working in various positions, including announcer and producer.

TERESA MARTIN has joined Blue Ridge Country magazine, a publication of Leisure Publishing in Roanoke, as an account executive. She will represent the magazine's West Virginia territory. Martin, who has been in sales and marketing for 18 years, most recently worked for Scene magazine, also in Roanoke.

NONPROFITS

The Blue Ridge Housing Development Corp. has elected officers for 1997: CRAIG BALZER, president of Balzer & Associates, chairman of the board; ACIE MERRILL, Merrill Construction Co., first vice president; CYNDI STULTZ, mortgage banking officer at First Union National Bank of Virginia, second vice president; ROBERT "RUSTY" COFFMAN, Central Fidelity Bank, treasurer; and JERRY DUNNAVANT, marketing coordinator at Lawyer's Title Insurance Co., secretary.

REAL ESTATE

The Roanoke Valley Apartment Association has elected officers for 1997: SUSAN HUBBARD, Pebble Creek Apartments, president; LISA WILEY, Pebble Creek Apartments, first vice president; MEG WILSON, Windy Hill Key Apartments, second vice president; MARILYN KINGMA, Kingma Productions Inc., secretary; and MICHELLE WILBURN, Ferncliff Apartments, treasurer. The association's representatives for the 1997 Virginia Apartment Management Association board of directors are GLENNA BANNISTER of Enterprise Investments/Cedar Ridge Apartments and JANET RIDDLEBARGER of Snyder-Hunt.

STUART L. MEREDITH of Hall Associates Inc. in Roanoke has been elected secretary of the Virginia Chapter of the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors, an affiliate of the National Association of Realtors.
