Radford U. hires 3 for business center
RADFORD - To meet increased demand for services, the Business Assistance Center at Radford University has added three employees.
Michael Tentnowski will be the coordinator of training and development, providing workshops for business owners on management, leadership and international trade.
Tentnowski is former coordinator of business development programs at Virginia Tech. He earned an undergraduate degree in accounting and a graduate degree in business administration from the University of Montana. He is co-author of "The Virginia Entrepreneur's Guide," a book on starting and managing a business in Virginia.
Victoria Peterson is director of the newly created International Trade Center for Western Virginia. The center offers information, procedures and management tools for international trade.
Peterson was managing partner of Mackay International, a global business development firm. She has a bachelor's degree from Tennessee Wesleyan College and an International MBA from European University in Toulouse, France. She has conducted workshops in the United States, Scotland, and Haiti.
Sharon Masker will be the new coordinator for student outreach programs, which places students in internship positions, providing them with valuable work experience.
Masker has a bachelor's degree in education from the University of Florida and a master's degree in education from Indiana University. She has published articles on student involvement in business and student success and post-secondary education.
The Business Assistance Center draws on the resources of the university's College of Business and Economics, and offers small- and medium-sized businesses information on consulting, financial and planning assistance, and access current equipment.
Davidson's closes outdoors mall shop
CHRISTIANSBURG - Davidson's has closed its Davidson's Outdoors store in the New River Valley Mall and moved the merchandise sold there to its downtown Blacksburg store.
The Davidson's Outdoors was the last remaining store that focused on outdoors clothes for the retailer, which has sold traditional and contemporary clothing for men in Southwest Virginia since 1910.
"Our business continues to focus on quality and service, selling fashionable business dress and business casual apparel for men," said H. Lawrence Davidson, president and chief executive officer of the company.
Davidson's also has stores on Jefferson Street and in Tanglewood Mall in Roanoke, and in Lynchburg.
New River Valley Mall Manager Mike Poldiak said he is trying to find a new tenant for the former Davidson's Outdoors space.
Radford Chamber plans auction
RADFORD - The Radford Chamber of Commerce's annual auction to benefit its programs and projects will be Feb. 8 from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at the Norwood Center on Norwood Street.
Tickets are $25. The evening will features, drinks, a buffet, the auction and dancing.

Computer firm CCS quality certified
CHRISTIANSBURG - Comprehensive Computer Solutions has received ISO 9002 certification, indicating the firm's sales, service, support, purchasing, materials handling and production operations meet international quality standards.
CCS is the first Virginia computer firm to achieve ISO certification. The company received a $10,000 grant from the Business Modernization Division of the state Housing and Community Development Department to begin the certification process.
CCS was founded in 1981 and is a provider of computer solutions and dealer for several top computer makers. It has doubled its business and workforce in the last year.
The company recently moved into a 10,500-square-foot expansion in Christiansburg's Industrial Park.
