FIRE CHIEF FIRED OVER SEX HARASSMENT CHARGE

A Prince William Fire Department battalion chief has been fired for the alleged sexual harassment of a female employee he supervised.

M. Russell Rakestraw, 50, confirmed that he was fired Jan. 21 after an investigation into allegations he made sexually suggestive remarks to a female firefighter.

Fire department officials would confirm only that Rakestraw was no longer with the department.

Rakestraw was hired in 1989 as the department's deputy chief. That position was eliminated during downsizing and he was reclassified as major. He became a battalion chief in 1994.
