ADAMS, Leigh Sherman, 89, of Martinsville, died Sunday, January 26, 1997. Funeral 1 p.m. Tuesday, Freedom Baptist Church. Arrangements by Tomlinson Funeral Home, Ridgeway.

AMOLE, Mary Dibrell Raleigh, 85, died on Saturday, January 25, 1997, on Long Island, N.Y. Mrs. Amole was a lifelong resident of Roanoke until four years ago. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph M. Raleigh and the widow of Roger L. Amole Sr. Mrs. Amole graduated from the College of William and Mary in 1933. She was employed as a librarian at Melrose School in Roanoke. Mrs. Amole was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Parish and a founding member of St. Anthony's Circle. She is deeply mourned by her son, Roger L. Amole Jr. and his wife, Debra, and children, Ryan, Carolyn and Devin; by her daughter, Patricia A. Megale and her husband, Joseph, and their son, Lawrence Roger Megale and his wife, Megan, and their children, Kelley, Matthew and Shea; and by their son, Joseph Raleigh Megale, son, Christopher Scott Megale and his partner, Curtis Wagner, and son Roger Brent Megale and his wife, Tiffany. Viewing is at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel on Church Avenue on Tuesday, January 28, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Prayer Service will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Andrew's Catholic Church at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 29. Burial is in Evergreen Cemetery.

BLANKENBECKLER, Walter Neal, 74, of Skyview Drive, Chilhowie, died on his 74th birthday, January 25, 1997 in Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eloise Dungan Blankenbeckler. He was a life-long resident of Smyth County and was of the Baptist faith. He loved hunting and was an accomplished archer, having won the Virginia State Championship title in the sport. He had worked, until retirement, at both Burlington Industries and as a rural mail carrier with the U. S. Postal Service. He had owned and operated Neal's Archery Shop in Chilhowie. He was a member of the Chilhowie Masonic Lodge #250 A.F. & A.M. He was a U. S. Navy veteran of World War II. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, David Neal and Linda Blankenbeckler, Bristol; one daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Jim Hutton, Glade Spring; one granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Michelle and Chris Brown, Bristol, Tenn.; one grandson, Neal Hutton, Glade Spring; one infant great-granddaughter, Kayla Louann Brown, Bristol, Tenn.; one brother, John Campbell Blankenbeckler, Homasassa, Fla. Memorial services will be conducted 8 p.m. Monday in William Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Frank Branson officiating. Graveside services will be conducted 11 .am. Tuesday at Saint James Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Wilkinson, Gerald Holdaway, Cecil McClure, Dean Adams, Jim King, Randy Goodman, Teddy McClure and Jerry McClure. BOOTHE, Ernest D., 64, of Christiansburg, died Saturday evening, January 25,1997 at Montgomery Regional Hospital. Surviving are his wife, Ann S. Boothe; two daughters, Dana B. Sheppard, Radford, Linda B. Jones, Christiansburg; a son, Ernie D. Boothe, Christiansburg; and two grandchildren, Tony Sheppard, Chrystal Jones. BUTLER, Opal A., 81, of Bozoo, W.Va., died S unday, January 26, 1997, in Lindside Care Center at Lindside, W.Va. He was born September 7, 1915, at Lovern, W.Va., and was the son of the late Charlie C. and Mary Elizabeth (``Lizzie"") Wills Butler. Mr. Butler was a farmer and a member of Thompson Chapel Church at Indian Mills, W.Va. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ella Mae Thompson Butler; a son, Donald Butler; three brothers, Philip K Butler, Charles (``Ed"") Butler and Hobert O. Butler, and one sister, Margaret Harry. Surviving are two brothers, Ernest Butler of Bozoo and Woodrow (``Woody"") Butler of Narrows, Va.; two grandsons, Ronald Butler of Narrows and Michael Butler of Bozoo; two granddaughters, Donna Moulder of Princeton, W.Va., and Michelle Via of Dublin, Va.; five great-grandchildren, and three stepgreat-grandchildren. COLLINS, Faye Price, 76, of Roanoke, passed away Friday, January 24, 1997. She was retired from Moore's Building Products. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Wanda Collins Underwood; four sisters, Lucy P. McGuire, Mary (``Dolly"") Strong, Ethel V. Price and Betty P. Love; two brothers, William Arthur Price and Bill Price. Surviving are a number of nieces and nephews, and numerous close friends. Graveside services will be at Mt. DODSON, Walter Lewis Jr., 58, of Roanoke, passed away Saturday, January 25, 1997. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Jane Dodson; two sons and daughters-in-law, Walter L. III and Darlene Dodson of Roanoke, and Donald E. and Ovita Dodson of Clarksville, Tenn.; daughters and son-in-law, Catherine A. Dodson of Roanoke, Deborah E. Dodson of Christiansburg, and Karen L. and Mike W alker of Flagstaff, Ariz.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Anita and Robert Lindamood of Roanoke, and Susan and Bob Johnson of California, and nine grandchildren. GILLIE, Barbara M., 64, of Christiansburg, went to be with the Lord, Saturday, January 25, 1997. Loving daughter of the late William ``Lecky"" and Beatrice ``Bea"" Myers, she was a retired barber, and she had enjoyed being employed at Wolverine Gasket Company for the past 11 years. She was preceded in death by one brother, John E. ``Sonny"" Myers and one son, William L. ``Billy"" Gillie. Surviving are her husband, Kennison Gillie, Christiansburg; a son and daughter-in-law, Gordon and Lou Gillie, Dublin; a daughter and son-in-law, Athena and Rob Gibson, Shawsville; two granddaughters, Jessica Carroll and Jamie Gillie; three grandsons, Kenny Gibson and Billy and Scott Gillie; a brother and sister-in-law, Ralph and Linda Myers of California; a sister-in-law, Rosie M. HALL, Gladys Crowder, 80, of Roanoke, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 26, 1997. She was a past member of Patterson Memorial Brethren Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher, Patroness of the Sisterhood of Mary & Martha, and taught child evangelism classes. For the last 13 years, Mrs. Hall was a member of Shenandoah Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband, Troy T. Hall; a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy H. and Roger W. Garman Sr. of Princeton, W.VA.; two grandchildren, R. Wayne Garman Jr. and Susan N. Garman, and a great-grandson, Dylan M. Kiser, all of Princeton; four sisters, Helen C. Dunbar of Hollins, Lyla C. Gibson of Troutville, Ruby C. Collins of Roanoke and Thelma Jones of Callaway, and two brothers, Earl Crowder of Troutville and Clyde Crowder of Daleville. MARTIN, Shuler James, 85, of Pembroke, died Saturday, January 25, 1997, in Roanoke Memorial Hospital following a long illness. Born in Pembroke, he was a son of the late Greel and Lula Riggs Martin. He was retire d from Klotz Virginia Limestone. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Gillespie Martin, and a son, Charles Martin. Surviving are one son, Larry Martin of Pembroke; two daughters, Rachael Travis of Madison Heights and Beulah Gibson of Pembroke; a special nephew, Tommy Detamore of Pembroke; two sisters, Elizabeth Adams of Gate City and Naomi Greer of Welch, W.Va.; nine grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel in Pembroke, with the Rev. Raymond White and the Rev. James Walker officiating. MOSES, Viola May, 71, of Salem, passed away Saturday, January 25, 1997. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert E. and Myrtle Hale Parker, and a granddaughter, Kristy Marie Moses.
