FRANKLIN COUNTY GETS BATTLE-TESTED IN LOSS

Boo Battle scored 28 points Saturday to lead Patrick Henry to an 85-66 Roanoke Valley District victory over Franklin County in Rocky Mount.

Ronnie Kasey added 18 points, Colby Leftwich 16 and Malik Shareef 10 for the Patriots (10-4 overall, 2-1 district).

Henry Eggleston led the Eagles (4-11, 0-4) with 19 points.

Gate City 43, Pulaski County 37: Josh Shoemaker scored 20 points as the visiting Blue Devils pulled out a non-district victory in Dublin.

Gate City (11-3) trailed by two heading into the fourth quarter, but went to the free-throw line to outscore the Cougars 14-6 in the final eight minutes.

Ronald Branch scored 14 points for Pulaski County (8-6).

Staunton River 53, Appomattox County 52: Chris Martin scored 16 points as the Golden Eagles (6-9, 3-4) held on for a Seminole District victory over the Raiders in Appomattox.

The Raiders held the ball for a final shot and the win at the end of the game, but turned it over.

Clarence Johnson led Appomattox County (5-10, 1-5) with 22 points.

Girls

Pulaski County 66, William Fleming 56: The Cougars used a balanced attack and tenacious defense to remain unbeaten atop the Roanoke Valley District with a victory over the Colonels in Dublin.

Trina Williams scored 17 points to lead four Pulaski County players in double figures. Lisa Skeens had 15 points for the Cougars, and Robin Bower and Sarah Donald each scored 11.

Pulaski (11-1, 3-0) turned up the pressure and pulled away in the fourth quarter, despite hitting just nine of 16 free throws in the final eight minutes. The teams combined to connect on only 37 of 65 free-throw attempts in the game.

Shaunarey Walker led Fleming (8-5, 2-2) with 21 points and Tonia Brown added 11.
