February, Black History month, is just around the corner, and it's a good time to think about contributions made by African-Americans.

The Roanoke Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., is sponsoring an essay contest on the influence of African-American history and culture. Kids in grades three-eight are eligible to participate. The winner in each grade will receive a prize and an engraved plaque.
