COLEMAN, Percy Brown, 71, of Buena Vista, died Sunday, January 26, 1997, at the V.A. Medical Center in Salem. He was born December 2, 1925 in Amherst County, a son of the late Henry W. Coleman and Dora Wheeler Coleman. He served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. He was retired from Burlington Industries. Mr. Coleman was a member of the Buena Vista Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Noel Coleman; one sister, Thelma Painter of Buena Vista; a stepdaughter, Virginia Crist and husband, Arthur, of Lexington. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 29, 1997, at Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Claude Floyd officiating. Burial will follow in the Green Hill Cemetery. Donations may be made to the American Lung Association. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

DAILEY, Evelyn Blankinship, 91 of Roanoke passed away Monday, January 27, 1997. Mrs. Dailey was a charter member of Raleigh Court United Methodist Church and was a retired House Mother from Jefferson Hospital and Community Hospital School of Nursing. She was the widow of Joseph W. Dailey and is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Judith D. and A. Gordon Thornton, Jr., Roanoke; grandsons, Andrew G. Thornton, III and his wife Judy R., Roanoke, Joseph D. Thornton and his wife Linda F., Richmond; three great-grandchildren, Lee Ann Thornton, Andrea Thornton and Matthew Thornton; a devoted friend, Bea Wickham, Roanoke. Funeral services will be held at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel Wednesday, January 29 at 10:30 a.m with the Reverend William Ramey, Jr. and the Reverend Danny Dugan officiating. DODSON, Walter Lewis Jr., 58, of Roanoke, passed away Saturday, January 25, 1997. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Jane Dodson; two sons and daughters-in-law, Walter L. GOAD, Lillian Gae, 84, of Pembroke, died Sunday morning, January 26, 1997, at Giles Memorial Hospital in Pearisburg, Va. Born at Goodwins Ferry in Giles County, Va. on August 13, 1912, she was a daughter o f the late Arie and Mila Smith Duncan and stepdaughter of the late Walter G. Browning. She was a member of Pembroke Christian Church. She was preceded in death by a sister, Osie Little, three brothers, Robert, Dorsey and Eugene Duncan, two stepsisters, Eva Miller and Grady Cook, a half brother, Odell Browning and two stepbrothers, Estelle and Garnett Browning. Surviving are one brother, Edgar W. Duncan of Newport and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, January 29, 1997, at 2 p.m. in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel in Pembroke, with the Rev. Terry Willis officiating. GUNTER, Charlie Evans, 79, of Blacksburg, passed away Saturday, January 25, 1997, at his residence in the New River House of Warm Hearth Village. He formerly lived at Long's Trailer Court (Rt. 1, Christiansburg). He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Belle Gunter, and was retired from the Virginia Department of Highways. Surviving are a daughter, Sue Robinette; a stepson, Robert Hilton; one grandson, Phillip Robinette; two stepgrandchildren, Mark and Chastity Hilton; one sister, Lucille Gunter, Shawsville. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 28, from the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home Chapel, Christiansburg, conducted by the Rev. Tim Whitaker. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery. Friends and neighbors will serve as pallbearers. HARDY, Alpha Bowman, 85, of Hillsville, died Monday, January 27, 1997 at Elder Care of Hillsville. She was born August 27, 1911 at Patrick County, Va. She lived in Schoolfield section of Danville. She was employed for 41 years at the #5 sewing room at Dan River Mills. She was a member of the Schoolfield United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Hardy and a stepson, Henry (Jack) Hardy. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Bobbie and Bill Copeland of Hillsville; one stepdaughter and her spouse, Christine and Clyde Bowman of Claudesville; sister and brother-in-law, Vergie and Robert Hall of Danville; a beloved sister-in-law, Elma (Sis) Garrett of Hillsville; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund. HATCHER, Alice Jane, 77, of Salem, went Home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 27, 1997. She was a life-long area resident and a faithful member of Southside Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of forty-three years, Jim T. Hatcher. Her surviving family includes a son and daughter-in-law, Donnie and Fran Hatcher; daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Bill Atkins, Judy and Leon Thacker, Linda and Barry Crawford; grandson and wife, Jimmy and Terri Richardson; granddaughters and husbands, Teresa and Neil Walters, Sherry and Martin Viars, Donna and Lenny Wright, and Jennifer Crawford; great-grandchildren, E. W. Schoonover, Adam Schoonover, April Walters, Joshua Walters, Kelsey and Baby Girl Viars, Zachary Wright, and Jeffrey Thacker; sisters, Glenna Mowles and Annie Cupp. Mrs. Hatcher was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 29, 1997 at 11 a.m. at the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel in Salem with the Reverend John William ``Bill'' Atkins officiating. MORRIS, William Vance, (``Poppy''), 81, of Narrows, died Monday morning, January 27, 1997, in Rich Creek. Mr. Morris was born on March 13, 1915 in Giles County, and was a son of the late Charles H. and Roxie Sexton Morris. Mr. Morris was a retired employee of Hoechst-Celanese Corp., and will be most remembered for his gentle nature, kindness to others, love of church, and his talented wood working ability. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, James (Jay) Morris of Pearisburg, Livingston Morris of Pearisburg, and Lewis Morris of Norfolk; his wife of 30 years, Mary Margaret Bales Morris of Pearisburg; one grandson, Stan Glenn. He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Charles W. and Loretta V. Morris of Pembroke; four daughters and sons-in-law, Beverly M. Glenn of Clinton, Ill., Barbara M. and Frank Hobbs of Pearisburg, Mary Ellen and Jack I. Byrd of Pulaski, and Ruth M. and Gerald W. Duncan of Newport; three brothers, Theodore Morris of Salem, Charles H. Morris Jr. of Salem, and Gene Morris of Radford; his mother-in-law, Nannie S. Bales; and his wife, Evelyn S. MOSES, Harold Edwin, 68, of Shawsville, passed away following a long illness Sunday, January 26, 1997, in Montgomery Regional Hospital. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Arthur and Gladys Cook Moses; and a brother, Minor J. (Bob) Moses. He was retired from Green Hill, and was the beloved husband, father and grandfather of wife, Minnie Wickline Moses; daughters and son-in-law, Debbie Harless, Cindy and Eddie Belcher; grandchildren, Staci and Matt Harless. Also surviving are his sisters and brothers-in-law, Joyce and Raymond Kelley, Joanne and Harold Bradford; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ronald and Pat Moses, Kenneth Moses, Louise Moses; stepsisters, Edith Helms, Billie Etter, Mae Long, Mildred Wheeler, and Madeline Wrenn. She is survived by one daughter, Patricia Price Dillion, Talbott, Tenn.; four sons, John Richard Price , Blue Ridge, David S. Price, Roanoke, C. Gregory Price, Greenville, S.C. and Zachary T. STOCKSTILL, Dr. Leigh Hamilton, 61, of Roanoke, died Monday, January 27, 1997 at his home. He was born July 13, 1935 in Dayton, Ohio, the son of Annette Katherine Stockstill and the late Frederick Milton Stockstill. Dr. Stockstill graduated from Fairview High School in Dayton, and also graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University with a Bachelor of Science degree. He played varsity basketball at Ohio Wesleyan for four years. Dr. Stockstill received his medical degree from Ohio State University College of Medicine, and did his internship and residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Mount Carmel Hosp ital in Columbus, Ohio. He served as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy. Dr. Stockstill served on the staff at Community Hospital of Roanoke Valley for 28 years. He was a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and was a member of the American Medical Association and the Medical Society of Virginia. Dr. Stockstill was an active member of South Roanoke United Methodist Church, and a long time member and supporter of the Roanoke Central YMCA. Surviving are his wife, Barbara Blumer Stockstill; two daughters, Dr. Holly Stockstill Lewis and husband Spencer, State College, Pa., Allison Stockstill Pratt and husband John, Winston-Salem, N.C.; two sons, Dr. Todd Frederick Stockstill and wife Melissa, Memphis, Tenn., Dr. Kurt Robert Stockstill and wife Laura, Roanoke; eight grandchildren, Blair Katherine Lewis, Meade Hamilton Lewis, Grace Elizabeth Lewis, Ian Robert Stockstill, Cole Frederick Stockstill, Andrew Hamilton Stockstill, Thomas Robert Stockstill and Lee Hamilton Pratt. A memorial service will be conducted at 12 noon Thursday, from South Roanoke United Methodist Church, with Dr. Donald Roberts and the Rev. Robert Garner officiating. THORPE, James Ray, 74, of Pearisburg, died Monday morning, January 27, 1997, in Rich Creek. Mr. Thorpe was born on September 28, 1922 in Newsoms, and was a son of the late C. E. Sr. and Pearl Ferguson Thorpe. Mr. Thorpe had lived in Pearisburg since September 1986, coming from Suitland, Md. Mr. Thorpe had been employed by the U.S. Civil Service for 31 years, and for nearly 25 years was an internationally known sugar market statistician. He is survived by his wife, Mamie Lafon Thorpe of Rich Creek; one stepson, Kenneth E. Mills of Dayton, Ohio; one daughter, Gladys E. Holt of Asheville, N.C.; two sisters, Catherine T. Walter of Clinton, Md. and Pearle Thorpe Newsome of Emporia. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, January 31, 1997, at the Victory Holiness Church in Pearisburg at 2 p.m. with Rev. E. H.
