Jury clears teen `vampire' in 2 slayings

TAVARES, Fla. - Heather Wendorf, one of five teens in a so-called vampire cult accused in the slaying of her parents, was cleared Tuesday of murder charges in their bludgeoning deaths.

After the 15-year-old testified voluntarily for two hours, a grand jury found no probable cause she participated in the Nov. 25 murders of Richard and Naoma Ruth Wendorf.

Heather, who had been held in a juvenile detention center on two counts of second-degree murder and one count of robbery, was released shortly after the decision.

Jewell sues over bombing coverage

ATLANTA - Richard Jewell on Tuesday sued The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and the college where he once worked as a security guard, accusing them of libel in linking him to the Olympic bombing.

Jewell's lawsuit, which seeks unspecified damages, accuses the newspapers of portraying him in its stories as a man with ``a bizarre employment history and an aberrant personality'' who likely was guilty of planting the bomb.

Those stories quoted Piedmont College President Ray Cleere as describing Jewell as a ``badge-wearing zealot'' who ``would write epic police reports for minor infractions,'' the lawsuit said.

Also Tuesday, Jewell reached a settlement with CNN.

Details of the settlement were not disclosed, but Jewell said in a radio WGST interview, ``I'm satisfied with the settlement.''
