BAILY, Rev. Percy Ellis, Jr., 86, of Lively, Va. and formerly of Roanoke, went to be with the Lord on Monday, January 27, 1997. He retired in 1991 as a minister in the Wesleyan Church, where he pastored from 1950 to 1991. He was an Ordained Minister in the Virginia District of the Wesleyan Church. A member of the First Wesleyan Church in Roanoke and a U.S. Naval Veteran of World War II. He is survived by his wife, Agnes M. Baily, Lively, Va.; children, Phillip E. Baily, Seneca, S.C., Joanna B. Cook, Morrison, Colo., Marilyn B. Tingle, Lively, Va.; sister, E. Virginia Baily, Salem, Va.; grandchildren, Suzanne B. Morgan, Heather B. Cooper, Anna M. Tingle, Sarah E. Tingle and John N. Tingle; a great-grandchild, Eric M. Morgan. Funeral services will be held at First Wesleyan Church, 1 p.m. Thursday, with the Rev. Dale Holloway, the Rev. Dale Reynolds, the Rev. Tom Armiger and the Rev. Paul Wheeler officiating. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, at Oakey's North Chapel.

HILL, Lou Vina, 91, of Montgomery, W.Va., passed away in her sleep at Montgomery General Elderly Care on Sunday, January 26, 1997. She was a former resident of Powellton, W.Va. Mrs. Hill was born on May 24, 1905 in McDunn, W.Va., a daughter of the late Ira and Ollie Kidd. She was the widow of Moses Raymond Hill Sr., who preceded her in death in 1975. She was a member of the Powellton United Methodist Church and the Rebekah Lodge. Mrs. Hill is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Moses Raymond Hill Jr. and Mary Hill of Kimberly, W.Va.; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Ruby-Mae Hill of the Montgomery General Elderly Care, formerly of Powellton, Marguerite and Rev. Stacy L. Groscup of Margantown, W.Va., and Phyllis and Joe Zimmerman of Clifton Forge. She is also survived by seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She has two living sisters, Dolores Hartwell of Glen, W.Va. and Katie Grounds of Scott Depot, W.Va. Two sisters and seven brothers preceded her in death. The funeral service was held on Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the chapel of B. C. Hooper Funeral Home in Montgomery. Visitation was one hour preceding the service. Interment followed at Montgomery Memorial Park. Mrs. Hill was known as a lady with a smile for everyone.

HUNT, Orie Samuel, 83, of Radford, passed away Tuesday, January 28, 1997, in Radford Community Hospital. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army prior to World War II, and served in the U.S. Navy during the war. He retired from the Guard Force at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant, and was a member of Grove Avenue United Methodist Church. A 50-year member of the Virginia May Masonic Lodge #38 AF & AM, he was also a member of the Kazim Temple Shrine in Roanoke. Preceded in death by his wife, Avola Chafin Hunt, he is survived by a special friend, Ruth Underwood, Radford; one son and daughter-in-law, David B. and Sophie Hunt, Newport; two daughters and sons-in-law, Judy H. and Richard T. Hunt, Fay H. and Jerry Warren, all of Radford; six grandchildren, Pam Semones, Nickie Blankenship, Laura Epperley, John David Hunt, Jay Warren, Sam Warren; five great-grandchildren, Leslie Semones, Richard Blankenship, Thomas Semones, Meredith Epperley, Andrew Epperley; two sisters, Flora Edwards, Iva Fisher, both of Roanoke. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, January 30, at the graveside in Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg, conducted by Rev. Clarence G. Dishman. Masonic graveside rites will be conducted by the Virginia May Lodge #38 AF & AM. Friends may call any time Wednesday after noon at the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home, Christiansburg, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

KIPPS, Hautene Jones, 72, of Roanoke, passed away Monday, January 27, 1997. Surviving are her husband, Frank E. Kipps; her brothers, Walter Jones, Marrow, Ga., Billy Jones, Pilgram Knob; her sisters, Eskilne Davis, Boones Mill, Joyce Kean, Whitewood. A private graveside service for her family members will be held Wednesday. No flowers please. Arrangements by Lotz Roanoke Chapel.

KIRK, Arnold Kenneth, 86 of Salem, died Monday, January 27, 1997 in a Salem hospital. He was a retired minister of New Canterbury Christian Church Disciples of Christ, in Craig County servi ng 25 years plus. He was a member of the Fort Lewis Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Salem, Va. Mr. Kirk was also an avid Bowler at the Lee-Hi Lanes. He is survived by five daughters and sons-in-law, Virgie and Leon Jarrett, Winston Salem, N.C., Nettie and Joe McDaniel, Lapeer, Mich., Eva and Jack Gordon, Roberta and Clay Francisco, Barbara and Herbert Allgayer, all of Salem; 23 grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Lotz Salem Chapel with the Rev. George Edwards and Rev. William Murdock officiating. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Fort Lewis Christian Church Memorial Fund. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Lotz Salem Chapel.

KIRKWOOD, William Ronald, (``Bill""), 72, of Roanoke County, died Tuesday, January 28, 1997. He was retired from Sealtest and Kraft, Inc. His last employment was at Valley Rich Dairy. He was a member of Raleigh Court United Methodist Church and the Friendship Sunday School Class. Surviving are his wife, Rahma Lee Kirkwood; a sister, Mrs. Ola Powell. Services will be at Oakey's South Chapel, 1 p.m. Thursday, January 30, 1997. The Rev. William Ramey will officiate. Interment will follow at 3 p.m. Thursday in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg. Friends may call at Oakey's South Chapel after 1 p.m. Wednesday, where the family will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Memorials may be made to Raleigh Court United Methodist Church or the American Heart Association.

KISER, Kermit, 65, of Goodview, passed away Tuesday, January 28, 1997, in a Roanoke hospital. He was a member of Barnhardt Baptist Church and was retired from Wilson Trucking Company. Surviving are his devoted wife of 44 years, Dorothy Jackson Kiser; a son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Kay Kiser, Roanoke; a daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Allen Osborne, Richlands; two grandsons, Kenneth Kiser Jr., Hardy, Gregory Osborne II, Richlands; granddaughter, Sara Osborne, Richlands; six brothers, Glenn and Carlton Kiser, Roanoke, Judson and Paul Kiser, Cleveland, Va., Ralph Kiser, Honaker, Kyle Kiser, Castlewood; seven sisters, Katherine Brown, Bluefield, Va., Nancy Stallard, Pocahontas, Va., Ruth Johnson, Castlewood, Mary Clark, Bristol, Tenn., Jane Fuller, Bristol, Va., Nell Addison, Lancaster, Ohio, Stella Dotson, Abingdon; a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted from Oakey's Vinton Chapel at 1 p.m. Thursday, January 30, with the Rev. Terry A. Mabrey and the Rev. Joey F. Phillips officiating. MANLEY, Brenda Joyce Johnson, 54, of Route 1, Bedford, died Monday, January 27, 1997, in Virginia Baptist Hospital. She was born in Bedford County on April 4, 1942, a daughter of Isabell Catherine Craig Johnson and the late Claude Edward Johnson. She was a member of Bedford Church of God. In addition to her mother she is survived by her husband, Earl D. ``Boe'' Manley; two sons, Keith D. Manley, Goode, Travis E. Manley, Bedford; one daughter, Alesia M. ``Lisa'' Tucker, Bedford; two brothers, Nelson E. Johnson and Phillip W. Johnson, both of Bedford; four sisters, Evelyn J. Watson, Geraldine J. O'Connell, Dorothy J. Looney, and Diane J. Lacy, all of Bedford; five grandchildren. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, January 30, 1997, at Carder-Tharp Funeral Chapel with the Rev. John R. Ivins, Rev. F. David Jones, and Rev. Herman J. Fields officiating. Burial will follow in the Virginia Memorial Park. MOSES, Harold Edwin, 68, of Shawsville, passed away following a long illness Sunday, January 26, 1997, in Montgomery Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 29, at the Big Spring Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Richard H. Horne and Rev. Todd Knock, with burial in East Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Elliston Volunteer Fire Department or the Shawsville Volunteer Rescue Squad. Arrangements are being handled by the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home, Christiansburg.

PAXTON, Victor C. Jr. of Vinton passed away December 14, 1996. A dedication service at Moneta Elementary School, Saturday, February 1, at 11 a.m.

PAYNE, Harris Lee Sr., 83, of Floyd, formerly of Christiansburg, died Monday, January 27, 1997, at Montgomery Regional Hospital. He was a lifelong banker and served many years as President of the former Cambria Bank in Christiansburg (now First Virginia Bank of the Southwest). He had been a member of Main Street Baptist Church in Christiansburg for 43 years, and served there many of those years as a Deacon and church treasurer. A proud veteran of World War II, he served both stateside and in the European Theater as a Sgt. in the U.S. Army, and was a recipient of the Bronze Star. He was also a longtime member of the Christiansburg Kiwanis Club. Surviving are one daughter, Susan Payne Rodgers of Check; three grandchildren, Shannon Lee Rodgers of Radford, Jesse Danielle Payne and Aysha Leigh Payne, both of Christiansburg. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alberta Groseclose Payne; and a son, Harris Lee ``Buddy'' Payne Jr. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday from Main Street Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. William E. Hungate. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the Floyd County Rescue Squad or to the Salvation Army. PERDUE, William Oscar, (``Bill""), 73, of Wirtz, died Monday, January 27, 1997, in a Roanoke hospital. He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Claudie Belle Perdue; a son, Robert Wayne Perdue; a sister, Mae Carter; a brother, Roy Perdue and wife, Goldie Perdue; a brother-in-law, William Johnson. Surviving are his wife, Bessie Lynch Perdue, of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Georgia (Polly) and Wayne Fisher, Molly and Kirby DeHart, all of Hardy, Macie and Jerry Campbell, Helen and Mac Dillon, Gloria and Junior Bolling, all of Glade Hill, Sandra and Jeff Mitchell, Geneva Perdue, all of Wirtz, Louise and Mack Nichols, Bedford, Margie and Lonnie Pendleton, Jonesboro, Tenn.; sons and daughter-in-law, Carroll Perdue, Tommy and Sandra Perdue, all of Wirtz; 22 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; his mother-in-law, Hester Fringer, Roanoke; sisters and brother-in-law, Vocie Johnson, Vinton, Ola and Gary Overstreet, Bedford; brothers and sisters-in-law, Thomas and Nellie Perdue, Union Hall, Calvin Perdue, Wirtz, Frank and Louise Perdue, Boones Mill, Archie and Estel Perdue, Charlie and Stella Perdue, all of Roanoke. SCOTT, Frederick Thorne, Sr., 82, of Vero Beach, Fla., died unexpectedly, Sunday, January 26, 1997 at Indian River Memorial Hospital. He was born May 26, 1914 in Rose Hill, N.C. and had been a resident of Vero Beach for seven years, moving here from Roanoke, Va. Mr. Scott was the Manager of Marketing of Industry Control Division for General Electric Company in Salem, Va. for 43 1/2 years prior to his retirement. He was a veteran of WWII, Lieutenant Senior Grade, serving in the U. S. Navy, graduate of North Carolina State University, with a B. S. in Electrical Engineering, member of First United Methodist Church of Vero Beach, Fla., Elks Lodge 1774, Vero Beach, Masonic Taylor Lodge 0023, Salem, Va., Scottish Rite, Roanoke, Va. Shrine Amara Temple of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., life member of the Iron & Steel Association, and a member of the Honorary Engineering Fraternity, Theta Tau. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Betty Jean Wills Scott, Vero Beach, Fla.; sons, Frederick T. Scott, Jr., Myrtle Beach, S.C., Stuart W. Scott, Charlottesville, Va.; daughters, Barbara S. Schmieg, Fairfax, Va., Susan S. Beard, Raleigh, N.C.; brother, Bertice C. Scott, Carthage, N.C.; nine grandchildren, Christian T. Scott , Frederick Thorne Scott, III, Keeli E. Scott, Rachel S. Scott, Regas W. Scott, Jason T. Schmieg, Kara J. Schmieg, W. Scott Beard and Melissa A. Beard. Mr. Scott will be transferred to the Padgett Funeral Home in Wallace, N.C. A funeral service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. February 1, 1997 at Rose Hill United Methodist Church, with Pastor Paul Stallsworth officiating. SMITH, Virginia Ratcliffe, 64, of Blue Ridge, passed away Monday, January 27, 1997. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Smith. Suriviving are a brother and sister-in-law, Ray and Nora Ratcliffe, Blue Ridge; nieces, Sherie Witt and Kathy Parker; five half brothers; one half sister. Graveside services will be conducted 10 a.m. Thursday, January 30, 1997 at Montvale Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Jeff Richards officiating. WADE, Mary Octavia, 84, of Floyd, passed away Tuesday, January 28, 1997, in Skyline Manor Nursing Home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew J. Wade, and two sons, Raymond Arthur Wade and Jerry Wayne Wade. She was a member of Tuggles Gap Baptist Church. She is survived by six daughters and sons-in-law, Ivadell and Amos Janney of Copper Hill, Thelma and Wilton Sutphin, and Joyce and James DeHart of Floyd, Elizabeth and Roger Bower of Vinton, Erma and Roger Goad, and Vera and Roger Sewell of Floyd; two sons and three daughters-in-law, Coy and Francis Wade, and Claude and Betty Wade of Floyd, and Elizabeth Wade of Floyd; two brothers, Aubrey Moran and Charlie Moran of Floyd; one sister, India Creasy of Stuart; 21 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 30, 1997, at Tuggles Gap Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Lee Cemetery.
