PH POUNDS PULASKI COUNTY

Patrick Henry took it inside and outside on Pulaski County and rolled to a 93-56 victory Tuesday night in a Roanoke Valley District boys' game in Dublin.

Boo Battle led Patrick Henry (11-4 overall, 3-1 district) with 27 points, 13 in the first quarter. He got help inside from Malik Shareef, who scored 16. Ronnie Kasey took care of business on the perimeter, hitting two 3-pointers and scoring 19.

The Cougars (8-7, 1-3) were led by Dorian Hendricks and Ron Branch, who scored 16 points apiece.

Lord Botetourt 66, Blacksburg 60: Lord Botetourt swingman Sean Osbourne led three Cavaliers scorers in double figures, hitting for 20 points to spark a Blue Ridge District victory over the Indians in Daleville.

Osbourne's 6-of-9 shooting and six assists helped lead the Cavaliers (9-4, 4-4) back from an 11-point deficit in the game's opening minutes. Jason Hunt scored 19 points on 8-of-10 shooting. As a team, the Cavaliers blistered the nets at a 63 percent clip on the evening and outscored the Indians 19-8 from the free throw line.

Phillip Klaus led Blacksburg (6-8, 3-5) with 18 points and nine rebounds.

Alleghany 58, Northside 56, OT: Casey Burks hit a short jumper with three seconds remaining in overtime to give the Mountaineers a Blue Ridge District victory in the Vikings' gym.

With the score tied at 56, Alleghany called a timeout and set up a clear-out play for Burks. The senior guard, who led the Mountaineers with 16 points, drove the lane and canned a three-footer.

Alleghany (4-11, 2-7) rallied from a five-point deficit in the fourth quarter and had a chance to win the game in regulation, but turned over the ball with three seconds left.

Ramey Pendleton had 14 points for the Mountaineers, and Travis Davis added 10.

Northside (2-12, 2-5) was led by Greg Purdue's 10 points.

William Fleming 70, Halifax 49: Charles Burnette scored 20 points and Percy Pannell added 16 as the Colonels breezed to a non-district victory over the Comets in South Boston.

Fleming, which led 35-25 at halftime, used its bench liberally in the second half and gradually wore down Halifax.

Halifax (7-6) was led by Michael Townshend's 20 points.

Parry McCluer 74, James River 45:The Fighting Blues (15-0, 5-0) used a balanced attack to down the Knights (5-8, 1-2) in a Pioneer District game in Buchanan.

Mike Clark had 14, Mike Decker 12 and Robert Snider 11 and David Downs 11 each to lead the Blues to victory.

Phillip Meador scored 10 points for the Knights.

Roanoke Catholic 58, Lynchburg Christian 51: The Celtics took control with a run at the end of the third quarter and went on to beat the Bulldogs in a Virginia Independent Conference matchup in Roanoke.

Brendan McCarthy scored eight of his game-high 25 points in the period and Chad Wall capped the quarter with a 3-pointer.

Roanoke Catholic (6-10, 5-3) also got 17 points and 11 rebounds from Terron Reed. The Celtics outscored the Bulldogs 33-22 in the second half.

Lynchburg Christian (7-9, 5-6) was led by Nate Garrett and Jody Jones, who each had 15 points.

Highland 83, Craig County 64: Jake Hull paced the Rams with 28 points, 19 of them in the first half, and Brian Werner added 23 as Highland dumped the Rockets in a Pioneer District game in New Castle.

Brad Armstrong added 14 for the Rams (9-2, 2-2), who turned it on in the third quarter, outscoring Craig County 27-14.

Brent Bradley led the way for the Rockets (1-8, 0-4) with 17 points. Dwayne Crawford added 15 and Jarvis Pauley 10.

Cave Spring 71, Franklin County 47: Alex Phillips scored 23 points and pulled down 10 rebounds as the Knights had no problems with the Eagles in a Roanoke Valley District matchup at Cave Spring.

Ricky Dierker scored 13 points and David Harms added 10 for the Knights (11-5, 3-2). Patrick Drakeford paced the Eagles (4-12, 0-5) with 11 points and Philip Clayborne added nine before he was ejected for kicking a Cave Spring player.

Glenvar 68, Auburn 59: Josh Williamson scored 24 points and Donnie Wimmer added 11 as the Highlanders held off the Eagles in a Three Rivers District matchup in Glenvar.

Glenvar (6-9, 3-1) held a 19-8 lead after the first quarter, but Auburn came back in the third quarter by outscoring the Highlanders 18-8.

Seven players fouled out of the physical affair, including four Highlanders, but neither team capitalized at the free-throw line. Glenvar hit 26 of 40 field-goal attempts, and Auburn connected on 19 of 36 free throws.

Ryan Nolan paced Auburn (3-10, 1-4) with 19 points and Jason Vaughn added 11. Adam Loveday grabbed eight rebounds as the Eagles outrebounded Glenvar 34-24.

Carlisle 80, North Cross 74, OT: Lamont Franklin poured in 32 points to lead the visiting Chiefs to an overtime Virginia Independent Conference victory.

North Cross (4-8, 3-5), which trailed 36-29 at halftime, came back to take a two-point lead at 46-44 heading into the fourth quarter.

After several lead changes, the Raiders sent the game into an extra period when David Foster hit a 12-footer with three seconds left in regulation. The Chiefs (7-6, 5-4) outscored North Cross 18-12 in overtime.

Charles Martin had 12 points for Carlisle. Foster led the Raiders with 18 and Michael Stoeckle added 17.

Girls

William Fleming 54, Halifax 36: The Colonels applied stifling defensive pressure from the opening tip and easily defeated the visiting Comets in a non-district game.

Fleming (9-5), which pressed most of the first half, led 16-4 at the end of the first period and stretched the lead to 30-13 at the half.

Shaunarey Walker led Fleming with 14 points, and Revonda Barber added 13 for the Colonels.

Stuart Hall 40, North Cross 39: The hosts withstood a furious rally by the Raiders and scored the winning basket with nine seconds left in a Blue Ridge Conference matchup in Staunton.

Jennifer Davidson hit the bucket one night after scoring the 1,000th point of her career in a game against Roanoke Valley Christian. North Cross called time out, but couldn't make two attempts.

The Raiders (8-5, 7-3) were down eight after three quarters, but went ahead by three with 2:15 left. North Cross was led by Ann Ballenger's 18 points.

Roanoke Valley Christian 58, Virginia Episcopal 26: Gina Guthrie scored 22 points to lead the Eagles to an easy Blue Ridge Conference victory in Lynchburg.

Guthrie also came up with 14 steals and Rebecca Bryant added 12 points for RVC. The Eagles (16-4, 8-1) held Virginia Episcopal (5-5) to six or fewer points in each of the first three quarters.
