A 48-year-old man was shot in the leg in Northwest Roanoke on Thursday.
Police said Omar Rabb was shot at Sixth Street and Patton Avenue Northwest about 7:50 p.m. Officers said a witness told them that the witness and Rabb came out of a house on Patton, then three men walked past them. One man turned, pointed a chrome handgun at Rabb and said, "Give it up or get out of the neighborhood," police quoted from the witness' statement. The man then shot Rabb in the thigh.
Rabb was in stable condition Friday at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, according to a nurse.
Earlier Thursday, a Northwest Roanoke restaurant manager apparently warded off a would-be robber by screaming for help and running.
About 12:08 a.m., an armed, masked man walked into the China Lite Restaurant at 2319 Melrose Ave. through an unlocked back door. He did not ask for money. As soon as he entered the kitchen, restaurant manager En Biao Lin screamed for help and ran out the front door. The masked man fled through the rear door, police said.
