6 CHARGED WITH MOB VIOLENCE

A BEATING that apparently lasted close to an hour has landed the young victim in a hospital and a group of people from Vinton and Roanoke County in the Botetourt County jail.

Six people have been charged with abduction and mob violence in the severe beating of a young Roanoke-area man at a mobile home in Webster early Saturday.

Botetourt County Sheriff Reed Kelly said the man, who he asked not be identified, is in his late teens or early 20s. The man was visiting the mobile home near Blue Ridge about 4:30 a.m. Saturday when five men and women that he knew pulled up in a car.

The group apparently was angry with the man because he owed one of them money, Kelly said.

The victim had borrowed a car from a friend several weeks ago and wrecked it, Kelly said. Another friend, who was among the group, put up the money for the repairs.

The group showed up with several handguns, a sword, a knife and a table leg among them, Kelly said.

"We think they probably came down here with the express purpose of seriously injuring this boy or killing him," he said.

At some point during the beating, which Kelly said may have lasted for nearly an hour, the victim was able to call his sister. Roanoke County police received a 911 call, and Botetourt County authorities eventually found out where he was being held.

When deputies arrived before 6 a.m., the group would not let the young man leave the trailer, Kelly said.

The victim later was taken to Columbia Lewis-Gale Medical Center, but his injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, Kelly said. The hospital would not release any information about his condition.

The following people have been charged with abduction and mob violence in connection with the beating and are being held in the Botetourt County Jail:

* Danny Ray Brickey, 25, of Vinton. He is being held on a $20,000 bond.

* Daniel Kenneth Moore Sr., 21, of Blue Ridge, who also is charged with property damage and use of a firearm in commission of a felony. He is being held on a $60,000 bond.

* Buford Lee Musselman, 19, of Vinton, also charged with grand larceny of a firearm and use of a firearm in commission of a felony. He is being held on a $60,000 bond.

* Jamee Lynn Williams, 18, of Roanoke County, also charged with resisting arrest and interfering with a police officer. She is being held on a $20,500 bond.

* Lisa Jane Rogers Overstreet, 40, of Roanoke County. She is being held on a $50,000 bond.

* Shannon Aleene Overstreet, 19, of Vinton. She is being held on a $50,000 bond.

Kelly said the group was charged with abduction because they wouldn't let the victim leave and with mob violence because authorities think they came to the trailer with the intent of injuring the victim.
