KEYDETS LOSE AT DAVIDSON

Narcisse Ewodo had 17 points and 17 rebounds Saturday to lead Davidson to a 77-67 victory over VMI in a Southern Conference basketball game in Davidson, N.C.

Chadd Holmes added 14 points and the Wildcats (11-8, 5-3) made 18 of 22 free throws in the second half to clinch the victory.

VMI (9-11, 5-3) got 17 points from Maurice Spencer, but the Keydets shot only 33 percent in the first half and trailed 38-31 at the break.

Darryl Faulkner added 13 points and seven assists for VMI.

In other games:

VCU 77, William and Mary 50: Reserve Mylo Brooks had 16 points, and the Rams held William and Mary to 12 points over a 12-minute stretch en route to a victory in Richmond.

After William and Mary (6-13, 3-6 Colonial Athletic Association) pulled to 19-16 on Bobby Fitzgibbons' 3-pointer with 8:28 left, the Rams (10-10, 5-5) limited the Tribe to three field goals the remainder of the half, two in the last minute.

To add to the insult, Patrick Lee hit a half-court shot at the buzzer to give the Rams a 36-24 lead. Virginia Commonwealth opened the second half with a 12-4 run to lead 48-28 with 15:58 left.

East Carolina 85, George Mason 81: The Pirates kept George Mason's high-scoring offense in check most of the game and took over first place in the Colonial Athletic Association with a victory in Fairfax.

The victory moved East Carolina (14-5 overall, 7-3 CAA) a half-game ahead of James Madison and a full game in front of UNC Wilmington.

George Mason (9-10, 3-7) trailed by 22 points, 60-38, midway through the second half before attempting a furious comeback in the final minutes.

Jonathan Kerner and Raphael Edwards scored 17 apiece to lead East Carolina, while Tony Parham had 15, Othello Meadows 14 and Tim Basham 11.

UNC Charlotte 75, James Madison 55: DeMarco Johnson scored 19 points and Shanderic Downs had 17, including eight in a decisive game-ending run, as the 49ers beat the Dukes in Harrisonburg.

UNC Charlotte (14-6) led 37-29 at the half and could not shake the Dukes (12-7) for much of the second half. Back-to-back 3-pointers by Sean Colson and Downs gave the 49ers a 61-49 lead with 5:04 left. The Dukes were outscored 14-6 down the stretch.

Old Dominion 63, Richmond 51: Odell Hodge (Laurel Park) scored 11 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and blocked four shots as the Monarchs beat the Spiders in Norfolk.

Old Dominion (15-7, 6-4 Colonial) tied the score at 36 on a dunk by Skipper Youngblood with 15:17 left in the game. The Monarchs then launched a 13-2 run from which Richmond (7-11, 3-6) never recovered.

Eric Poole had 11 points and 13 rebounds for the Spiders.

Virginia Wesleyan 102, Emory & Henry 85: The Marlins erupted for 64 points in the second half to notch an Old Dominion Athletic Conference victory in Norfolk.

Virginia Wesleyan (12-7, 9-4) shot 66 percent in the second half in pulling away from a 38-35 halftime lead.

Jason Porterfield (Northside) had 18 points and Donald Childress (William Byrd) added 17 for the Wasps (5-12, 5-6).
