Three VMI wrestlers won individual titles and Navy won the team title Saturday in the third annual All Academy Wrestling Championships in Lexington.
For the Keydets, Adam Mickiewicz won his second straight title at 134, Reese Edgington won at 158 and Leslie Apedoe prevailed in the heavyweight division.
Mickiewicz and Edgington shared the outstanding wrestler award, marking the second straight year Mickiewicz has been honored. A Keydet has been named the outstanding wrestler in all three years the championships have been held.
The Midshipmen won five individual titles and finished with 112.5 points, with Army second at 90.5. VMI finished fourth with 65 points.
In other sports news in the region:
* Six William Byrd wrestlers won individual championships as the Terriers cruised to the team title in the Blue Ridge District tournament in Lexington.
Byrd finished with 221.5 points to easily outdistance second-place Christiansburg, which had 176 points. Lord Botetourt was third with 155, followed by Northside with 142.5, Salem and Alleghany with 62, Rockbridge County with 42 and Blacksburg with 20.
William Byrd's Corey Walker (112), Randall Sell (119), Clay Proctor (125), Ben O'Baugh (130), Ben Jones (160) and Timmy Boothe (215) captured titles. Northside wrestlers Byron Roop (135) and Drew Cook (145) won championships, while Salem's James Giarla won at 189 and Lord Botetourt's Mike Thompson won at 275.
* VMI's Jordan Brandon was named the outstanding field events performer and Virginia State's Kirk Mensah was named the outstanding track events performer at the 45th Annual VMI Winter Relays at Walt Cormack Field House in Lexington.
Brandon finished second in the 35-pound weight and the shot put for the Keydets, while Mensah smoked the field in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 7.59 seconds.
James Yarborough won the 400 meters for VMI with a time of 50.66.
* The Virginia Tech track and field team continued to rewrite the record book on its new Mondo track as the Hokies set three school marks at the Virginia Tech Invitational.
In addition to the records, Tech had six first-place finishes overall.
The women's 4x400 meter relay team (3:54.04) and the 4x800 meter (9:35.42) also established school records.
Freshman Danya Gordon topped the old 500-meter dash record with a time of 1:15.05
* The Roanoke Star U12 girls' white team took second place in the Greensboro St. Valentine's Indoor Classic soccer tournament in Greensboro, N.C.
The Star outscored three teams 18-2 before losing to the Greensboro Twisters 2-1 in the final.
Carlie Smith scored six goals and Lindsay Lessler had four in the tournament. On defense, goaltender Charlotte Manetta and sweeper Clair VanBuren paced the team.
