LOVEDAY, AUBURN TURN BACK NARROWS

Sophomore Adam Loveday poured in 24 points and grabbed 15 rebounds Monday night as Auburn pulled away from Narrows to notch a 76-65 non-district victory in Riner.

Josh Vaughn added 15 points to help the Eagles win in a game that was close throughout. The teams combined for 44 free throws.

Auburn (4-13) clinged to a two-point advantage at halftime, but pulled away in the fourth quarter.

Jason Mullins paced the Green Wave (7-8) with 12 points.

In other games:

Hargrave Military 49, Roanoke Catholic 46: Jason Porter made two free throws to tie the score, then stole the ball and completed a three-point play with one second left as the Tigers won a Virginia Independent Conference game at Roanoke Catholic.

Hargrave Military trailed by 10 at halftime before rallying in the third quarter behind Larry Washington, who hit three of his four 3-pointers during the quarter. Porter and Washington each finished with 14 points.

Terron Reed scored 19 ponts and Brendan McCarthy 14 for the Celtics (6-12, 5-5).

Girls

Roanoke Catholic 32, Hargrave 14: Cristy Hinman scored 13 points and added seven steals as the Celtics (4-14, 3-9) downed the Tigers in a Blue Ridge District game at Roanoke Catholic.

Whitney Cummings pulled down 12 rebounds as the Celtics outrebounded Hargrave 37-23. The Celtics also forced the Tigers into 28 turnovers.
