For a fleeting moment, Tim Childress thought about the guy in Nebraska who had bowled three consecutive perfect games last week.
Later, after he followed the seventh 300 game of his bowling career with scores of 257 and 193 in the Bowling Green league at Hilltop Lanes on Wednesday night, he reflected on the memory of his big brother Ron, the Roanoke Valley wrestling legend who died in August.
``He was the best coach I ever had,'' Tim Childress said. ``He was the best coach in sports and the best coach in life.''
Childress dedicated his 300 game to his brother's memory. It was his first perfect game since December 1994.
Since it came in the first game of the night, Childress considered the success of Jeremy Sonnenfeld, the University of Nebraska student who last week became the first person to bowl a 900 series.
``The thought ran through my mind,'' said Childress, who finished with a 750 series, ``but it was a long way off.''
