GOULD'S STREAK NO RACQUET

MICHELLE GOULD continued her three-year win streak by capturing the Berglund Automotive Roanoke Pro-Am.

It's no wonder Michelle Gould measures her racquetball winning streak in years.

It's easier that way.

Laura Fenton met the same fate as all of Gould's opponents during the past three years, falling 15-5, 15-3, 15-2 in the final of the Berglund Automotive Roanoke Pro-Am at the Roanoke Athletic Club on Sunday.

``Let's see: That's about 30 tournaments and about three or four matches each tournament, so it's probably around 100 straight matches,'' said Gould, from Boise, Idaho. ``I get tired just thinking about it.''

Avoiding fatigue is a major consideration for Gould, because she consistently plays deeper into a tournament than any other competitor; hence, she plays more matches than anybody on the Women's International Racquetball Tour.

``That's why you want to get off the court as quickly as you can in your earlier matches,'' said Gould, who lost one game in Roanoke.

Organizers were pleased with the turnout for the matches and for Fenton's clinic Thursday night. Fenton had not previously reached a final and could move up to third in the point standings after finishing 16th last year.
