Christiansburg finished second in Region III boys' track and field meet Monday at Heritage High School in Lynchburg.
The Blue Demons scored 69 points, but were far outdistanced by Heritage, which had 104 1/2 points.
There were only three Timesland individual champions. Christiansburg's Matt Nolan won the mile in 4 minutes, 36 seconds, and the Blue Demons' mile relay team of Zack Johnson, Shane Guynn, Matt Phillips and Maurice Lee also won in 3:57.29.
The other Timesland winner was Blacksburg's Clay Schwabe in the 1,000, with a time of 2:23.5.
In girls' competition, Appomattox County edged Heritage 115-109 for the team championship. Salem scored 35 points for fourth place. There were no Timesland individual winners.
* The Roanoke Valley District indoor track and field meet scheduled for Virginia Tech's Rector Fieldhouse on Thursday was canceled.
Athletic directors said a meet held a week ago involving all the teams will be used to determine the Northwest Region representatives for the regional meet Feb.20.
* First-round games in the Blue Ridge District volleyball tournament, scheduled for Thursday, have been postponed until tonight, pending the weather and gym availability. Any further postponement will mean the announcement of a new schedule at one site.
* The Roanoke Rush has accepted an invitation to join the International Football League, a ``Double-A'' minor league, team president Larry Linkous said.
``We have been able to accomplish a lot in a very short time, and I feel this will be good for the team, the fans and the city,'' Linkous said.
Other teams in the IFL include: Hammond, La.; Fredericksburg; Durham, N.C.; Knoxville, Tenn.; Central Penn; and Charleston, W.Va. The Rush expects to play a 14-game schedule that includes six home games. Tryouts will be held in early May.
* A race car drivers' meeting for the Late Model Pro Stock, Pure Stock, Mini Stock and Rookies to discuss rules, track layout and sponsorships will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Roanoke National Guard Armory adjacent to Victory Stadium.
