Former Tech athlete sues over track injury

A Virginia Tech graduate and former member of its track team has filed a $10 million lawsuit against the university over a disabling injury sustained two years ago during practice on Tech's former secondhand indoor track.

The 200-meter wooden track on which Freddie Harrison Jr. was practicing in Rector Field House was 10 years old when Tech bought it from Madison Square Garden in 1984. It has now been replaced by a new $495,000 state-of-the-art indoor track. For details, see today's Virginia section.
