CELEBRATIONS - ANNIVERSARIES

Broadwater anniversary

Paul and Dorothy Broadwater celebrated their 50th Anniversary with dinner by their son Robert P. Broadwater, his wife Lauraine, and two grandgirls Amy and Angie. Afterward a reception of grandeur was given by special friends Odessa Harlow, Marie Stilton, Edith King and Mildred Carter, with appreciation to other friends.

Furrow anniversary

In a Christ centered celebration, a reception was held in honor of Hayden and Katie Furrow's 50th wedding anniversary on February 8th at West Salem Baptist Church. The reception was given by their children, Skip and Anne Furrow of Winston Salem, N. C., Cathy and Dan Althouse of Front Royal, Va., and John and Beverly Furrow of Roanoke, Va., and their seven grandchildren, Joel, Matthew, Stephanie, Brooke, Lindsay, Caleb and Joshua.

The couple was married at the Mt. Vernon Chapel in Washington, D. C., on February 8, 1947. The celebration included music provided by Debbie Davis on the harp, Jennifer Angrove on the flute, and John Furrow on the trumpet. The program also included special instrumental and vocal renditions as well as testimonials by their children and grandchildren. The toast was given by Mr. Furrow's brother John.

Mr. Furrow retired from the Naval Air Systems Command as Head of the Crisis Action Center and from the Red Cross. Mrs. Furrow retired from the Bureau of Naval Weapons as a Budget Analyst, and from Sovran Bank. She now does seasonal tax preparation for H & R Block. They are both involved in the work of their church and other volunteer effort.

The couple enjoyed a memorable time with family, friends and many out of town guests.

Happy Golden Anniversary

Congratulations and best wishes to Lloyd and Virginia Christianson of Callaway, Va. as they celebrate their 50th Wedding Anniversary on February 14, 1997. George and Gladys Owen of Roanoke celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary February 7th. They were married in 1926 in Bristol, Tennessee. They celebrated on the 8th with sons, Durward Owen an wife Connie of Charlotte, N. C., Dotson Owen of Loris, S. C., grandchildren, Steven Owen of Roanoke, Tami Hines, and great-grandchildren, Matthew and Ashley Hines of New Castle, VaQuarles anniversary

William and Lorene Quarles celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday February 15, 1997. The celebration was held at Golden Coral in Roanoke and was hosted by their children and spouses, Charlotte and Danny Roop of Montvale; and Jeff and Kim Quarles of Forest.

The couple was married on February 14, 1947 in Blue Ridge, Va., where they have resided for 50 years. Mrs. Quarles, the former Lorene Gross, is retired from Rubatex. Mr. Quarles is retired from Safety Motors (Valley Metro).

They have two grandchildren, Neil Roop and Jessica Quarles; and 4 step-grandchildren, Brent Kennedy, Brandon Kennedy, Danny Roop and Angie Durham.

Ingram anniversary

Elvin and Mildred Ingram celebrated their 50th anniversary February 14, 1997. They were wed on this day in 1947. Mildred is a homemaker and Elvin retired from Norfolk Southern in 1985. They have five children, Bobby, Johnny, Kenneth, Sharon, and Van; and ten grandchildren. Happy anniversary with love from all your family.
