Several small fires were set inside a Botetourt County house Sunday night, and a resident was taken to the hospital.
Curtis Tucker, age not available, was taken to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for smoke inhalation, but he appeared to be all right, according to a firefighter at the scene.
Several fire companies were dispatched shortly before 10 p.m. to a one-story brick ranch house at 4055 Laymantown Road. The fires were knocked down almost immediately.
Cpl. Nelson Tolley, the sheriff's office fire investigator, said small fires were set in a bedroom, the living room and several other areas.
Tucker's wife also was home at the time, but she was not injured.
Neighbors sprayed a living room fire with a garden hose, which helped keep damage minimal, Tolley said. A bed and a living room table and other furniture items were burned, but most of the other damage was cosmetic.
The sheriff's office will continue to investigate the fires. Tolley said he has evidence of who set the fires, and "there's no arsonist on the loose."
