WILLIAMS, COUGARS ROLL TO WIN

Trina Williams scored 20 points Saturday to pace Pulaski County to a 71-62 Roanoke Valley District girls' basketball victory over Franklin County in Rocky Mount.

Lisa Skeens added 10 points for Pulaski County, which pulled away in the second half after leading only 30-28 at the break.

Jessica Angle led Franklin County with 15 points.

Boys

Laurel Park 64, Patrick County 48: The Lancers came out blistering and scorched the Cougars in a Piedmond District contest in Stuart.

Laurel Park shot 82 percent (14 of 17) from the floor in the first half and outscored Patrick County 17-4 in the second quarter to take a 27-17 halftime lead.

Jeff Slade and Albert Eccles each scored 14 to pace the Lancers. Corey Reynolds led Patrick County with 19 points.

Bath County 68, Highland 66: Adam Grist scored six 3-point field goals, but it was a 3-footer from the lane with two seconds left that gave Bath County its Pioneer District victory at Highland.

Grist canned 34 points for Bath County (11-8 overall, 5-4 district). Highland (14-5, 5-5) was led by Bryan Werner with 24 and Jacob Hull with 23.

Fort Chiswell 79, Pocahontas 65: Jason Porter hit 22 points as Fort Chiswell (10-10 overall, 6-6 district) made it back-to-back Mountain Empire District basketball victories by trimming Pocahontas. The Pioneers had upset Bland the night before. Pocahontas (2-18, 1-11) was paced by David Murphy with 18 points in the regular season finale for both teams.
