JEFF JABLONSKI SCORES two goals as the Express wins one on the road.
The Roanoke Express got off to a good start on its four-game trip, beating the Charlotte Checkers 4-2 on Tuesday night in an East Coast Hockey League game in Charlotte, N.C.
Veteran left wing Jeff Jablonski scored two goals to bring his season total to 34, nine shy of Jeff Jestadt's single-season team record of 43 set in 1993-94.
Eric Landry opened the scoring for the Express (29-17-4) with his 13th goal at 3:45 of the first period. Eric Boulton tied it at 9:11 of the first. The score remained tied until Michael Smith put the Express ahead at 1:25 of the second period. Jablonski then pushed the lead to 3-1 with a power-play goal at 17:13 of the second period.
Darryl Noren retaliated with a power-play goal for Charlotte (26-20-5) at 9:24 of the third to cut it to 3-2, but Jablonski sealed the victory by scoring off a pass from Ilya Dubkov.
Chris Lipsett and Dubkov each finished with two assists.
Goalkeeper Dave Gagnon made 29 saves for Roanoke, which will play Jacksonville on Friday, Tallahassee on Saturday and Mississippi on Sunday. Roanoke does not return to the civic center until Feb. 25, when it plays Hampton Roads.
