Travis Blankenship poured in 25 points and grabbed 18 rebounds Wednesday night to lead James River to an 80-75 victory over Covington in the Pioneer District tournament in Buchanan.
James River (10-11) advances to play Parry McCluer at 6 p.m. on Friday at Dabney-Lancaster Community College in Clifton Forge.
The Knights placed four players in double figures. Phillip Meador scored 17 points, while Joey Ingram and Tommy Blankenship each had 13.
Tracey Walker led four Covington (8-12) players in double figures with 22 points. Boo Stewart added 17, Erwin Twitty 14 and Travis Bogar had 13.
Highland 91, Craig County 66: Bryan Werner and Jacob Hull each reached career milestones as the Rams (15-5) routed the Rockets in a Pioneer District quarterfinal game in Monterey.
Werner scored 25 points and passed the 1,000 point mark for his career, while Hull, who dished out 18 assists and scored18 points, went over 500 career assists.
Mike Fisher led Craig County (1-15) with 21 points.
Tuesday's game
Carlisle 64, Roanoke Catholic 52: Chad Martin scored 20 points to lead the Chiefs past the Celtics in a regular-season Virginia Independent Conference game in Martinsville.
Terron Reed led Roanoke Catholic (7-15, 6-8) with 18 points.
