UVA STUDENT ON BIKE KILLED BY SCHOOL BUS

A school bus hit a University of Virginia student who was riding a bicycle, running over and killing the man.

Police Sgt. Ronnie Roberts said the bus was making a right turn Tuesday during rush hour at a busy intersection when it hit the cyclist, who was traveling next to the bus. The bus did not stop.

Roberts said the bus's right rear wheel ran over the cyclist, crushing his helmet.

Police identified the victim as Charles Donovan Vogel, an 18-year-old University of Virginia engineering student from Shenandoah County.

Roberts declined to identify the bus driver, pending an investigation. It was unclear whether the bus driver was aware of the collision.
