LOA needs volunteers for companion program

Seniors age 60 and over are needed for LOA's Foster Grandparent and Senior Companion Programs.

In both programs, volunteers will work four hours a day with children or seniors with special needs.

Volunteers receive a nontaxable stipend, assistance with transportation expenses and meals.

Psychiatrist to speak at dinner meeting

Psychiatrist Robert Albanese will speak on "Perspectives on Anger" at the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill of the Roanoke Valley's dinner meeting on March 10.

Soccer club signing up members

The Roanoke Valley Youth Soccer Club is looking for players for its Roanoke Star U-13 Boys White and Red travel teams for the spring season. Players must be born between Aug. 1, 1983 and July 31, 1984 to be eligible. For more information, call Danny Beamer at 772-3871.

Financial seminar set for March 6

A free seminar, "Financial Strategies for Today's Woman," will be held March 6 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Quality Inn at Williamson Road and Orange Avenue.

Community Services seeking volunteers

The Council of Community Services seeks volunteers for the following area agencies:

The State Congressional Award Council is looking for adults to help administer a program that rewards community service by people ages 13 to 23. For more information, call (540) 829-0962.

Crisis counselors are needed to handle Teenline calls, TRUST crisis phone calls, and to assist at the TRUST shelter. Volunteers must be 15 or older for the Teenline, and 18 and over for the TRUST calls and shelter. Volunteers must commit to work four hours a week.

The To The Rescue Museum at Tanglewood Mall is looking for volunteers 15 and older to greet visitors, assist with admissions and work in the gift shop. Volunteers should be willing to work four hours a month.

The Richfield Nursing Center is looking for volunteers age 13 and older to visit with residents.

The Virginia Museum of Transportation is looking for volunteers 15 and older to work two or three hour shifts during special exhibits.

The Tranquility Breast Cancer Foundation needs volunteers to do a variety of office work including data entry, filing and answering the phones.

Tutors are needed for the Teen Outreach Program to work with at-risk students in algebra and English. Tutors would work one to two hours a week on Tuesdays or Thursdays.

Mentors are needed to work with graduates of Job Corps. Hours are flexible and mentors would work with 10 to 20 men a year. Training is provided.

Office volunteers are needed for the Mill Mountain Theatre. Hours are flexible.
