Vinton appoints new treasurer

Kim Burgess, a certified public accountant and graduate of Virginia Tech, has been appointed treasurer of Vinton.

Vinton Town Council appointed Burgess to a two-year term at its meeting Tuesday night.

Burgess, a resident of the town, has already begun her new job. She previously was director of accounting for the Roanoke chapter of the American Red Cross for 31/2 years.

Mill Mountain Zoo needs adult volunteers

The Mill Mountain Zoo is looking for people 18 or over to volunteer. A volunteer and recruitment seminar will be held today at 6:30 p.m. at the Roanoke County Library Headquarters on Electric Road.

Volunteers must be willing to volunteer four to six hours a week year round. Schedules are flexible and training is provided.

Gymastic classes offered for children

A gymnastics class for children ages 3 and 4 is being offered by the YMCA. The class will focus on basic tumbling skills and will introduce the children to gymnastics equipment.

The class will be held Thursdays from today to March 20.

Psychiatrist to speak at dinner meeting

Psychiatrist Robert Albanese will speak on "Perspectives on Anger" at the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill of the Roanoke Valley's dinner meeting on March 10.

Soccer club signing up members

The Roanoke Valley Youth Soccer Club is looking for players for its Roanoke Star U-13 Boys White and Red travel teams for the spring season. Players must be born between Aug. 1, 1983 and July 31, 1984 to be eligible. For more information, call Danny Beamer at 772-3871.
