Virginia Tech police arrested a former accounting student Friday on charges that he held another student hostage at gunpoint in her dorm room for several hours.
Tech Police Chief Mike Jones said Shawn D. Allen, 20, of Blacksburg, has been charged with felony abduction, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and carrying a concealed weapon on school property. Abduction, the most serious of the charges, is a felony that carries a maximum of 10 years in prison.
The woman who was abducted did not report the incident until late Thursday night. Police arrested Allen when he tried to return to the woman's dorm room in Payne about 10 a.m. Friday, Jones said.
The woman was held captive Thursday afternoon in her dorm room for about four hours by a man with a .357-caliber pistol, Jones said. He would not comment on whether there was any relationship between Allen and the victim.
Allen is in the Montgomery County Jail under a $60,000 bond.
