2 `HELPERS' CLEARED OF MOB VIOLENCE

Charges were dropped Friday against two of the people charged with mob violence in connection with the beating of a man in Botetourt County three weeks ago.

Charges of mob violence and abduction against Jamie Williams and Buford Musselman were dropped because it became apparent that the two were actually trying to help victim David Underwood, Botetourt County Commonwealth's Attorney Joel Branscom said.

Musselman had also been charged with theft of a firearm and using a firearm in the commission of a felony. Those charges were dropped as well, Branscom said.

Williams was convicted of interfering with a police officer and resisting arrest, Branscom said, and sentenced to 40 days in jail.

The charges resulted from an incident Feb.1. Underwood said a group of people held him in a friend's trailer and beat him because they said he owed them $200.

General District Judge Louis Campbell certified mob violence and abduction charges against Lisa Overstreet, Shannon Overstreet and Danny Brickey to the grand jury.

A preliminary hearing for Daniel Moore on the same charges is scheduled for Wednesday.
