Volvo GM Heavy Truck Corp.'s plant in Dublin anticipates calling back 40 laid-off workers and possibly hiring additional workers as a result of improved orders for the company's heavy trucks, a company official said Friday.
"We're looking at some pretty solid numbers for the second quarter of the year," said Reeder Singler, manager of human resources at the plant. Production has increased, in part, because a Volvo plant closed in Orrville, Ohio. Also, a new Volvo GM truck model has been well received by buyers, Singler said.
The Dublin plant's outlook has turned around since August, when production was 46 trucks per day and the company announced 140 layoffs. Today, the assembly plant produces 60 trucks a day and 40 workers remain laid-off.
Current production employment at the plant is around 1,200 and overall employment is about 1,500, he said.
