Blacksburg chamber seeks award nominees
BLACKSBURG - The Blacksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce is accepting nominations for Distinguished Citizen and Businessperson of the Year for 1996.
The Distinguished Citizen of the Year will be chosen based on: contribution of time or money to the community, beautification efforts, government involvement and work performed for a civic group.
The Businessperson of the Year will be chosen based on: originality of entrepreneurship. employment growth. contributions in time or money. environmental improvement. employment of handicapped people. energy-saving accomplishments. town beautification efforts, increase in dollar sales, innovativeness of product or service offered, response to adversity, participation in merchants' activities for economic growth, friendly rapport with fellow businesspeople and sponsorship or support of civic activities.

Christiansburg chamber hosts mixer at Spanky's
CHRISTIANSBURG - The Christiansburg-Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a Business After Hours mixer Thursday at Spanky's restaurant at the New River Valley Mall.
The event, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., will have a Mardi Gras theme. It is also sponsored by Columbia Montgomery Regional Hospital's Women's Resource Center.

Radford doctor gains recertification
RADFORD - Dr. Russell Davis, a family practitioner in Radford, has been recertified by the American Board of Family Practice.
Davis passed a written test on pediatrics, internal medicine, surgery, obstetrics, gynecology, psychiatry and other family practices.
Members of the family practice board must take recertification examinations every six years.
Computer course targets professionals
DUBLIN - New River Community College is sponsoring four courses on upgrading computer skills for office professionals.
The courses will cover skills for medical, legal, financial and administrative office employees. The courses start in early March and end in late April or early May.
The courses may provide recertification for teachers.

Radford chamber sets luncheon, mixer
RADFORD - Radford Chamber of Commerce will have its first quarter lunch Thursday at Damon's restaurant at the Best Western hotel from noon to 1:15 p.m.
The guest speaker will be E. Wilson Davis Jr., manager of economic development for American Electric Power, who will talk on "Partnerships in Economic Development." Tickets are $8 and reservations are required.
Also the chamber will have a membership mixer and celebrate the opening of Anastasia's restaurant in the Norwood Center Monday from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Wytheville offers real estate course
WYTHEVILLE - Wytheville Community College will offer the eight-hour Real Estate Continuing Education course from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Management Training Center at Grayson Hall.
