BASSETT STUDENT IS VA.'S FIRST BLACK JUNIOR MISS

Kendra Arnold, Martinsville/Henry County's Junior Miss, won the title of Virginia's Junior Miss Saturday night.

She is the first black ever to win the title.

Arnold, who has a 4.0 grade-point average at Bassett High School, performed a tap dance in the creative and performing arts segment of the program.

Arnold hopes to attend the University of Virginia or Wake Forest and eventually study law. Her parents are Walter and Shirley Arnold of Bassett.
