AIRD, Carrie Marie, loving wife, mother and devoted housewife, 85 of Vinton died Thursday, February 20, 1997. She was born on November 24, 1911 in Spottsylvania County. Surviving are her husband of 62 years, Jesse B. Aird Jr.; five children, Mary Ellen Aird, Vinton, Jesse B. Aird III and his wife Marie Garman Aird, Roanoke County, Philip W. Aird and his wife Suzie Aird, Evert, Wash., Charles L. Aird and his wife Donna Aird, New Dehli, India, Linda Aird Jenkins and her husband Richard Jenkins, Bremo Bluff, Va; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Bessie Tricket and her husband Bruce Tricket, and their daughter, a special niece Joy, Reston, Katherine Lloyd, Baltimore, M.D. The family will miss her love, fried chicken, apple pie and eating watermelon together. The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff and volunteers of the Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospice and in lieu of flowers, memorials be sent to them. Arrangements by Oakey's Vinton Chapel.

BRECKHEIMER, Donald G., (Lt. Col., U.S. Army, ret.), of Roanoke, lost his courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, February 18, 1997. He would have been 64 on February 20. Husband and Best Friend of wife Barbara, adoptive dad to Jeanne Faith (Barbara's daughter). He also leaves a son and daughter from a previous marriage. Graduated from St. Peter's College, with an MBA from Oklahoma City University, Don was a Hazardous Materials expert and Transportation Specialist. Our Don had a special sense of humor and shall be remembered for his friendly manner and constant willingness to help other people. He leaves a real empty space in our lives. Col. Breckheimer served in Vietnam. A visitation at Oakey's South Chapel will be on Saturday, March 1, 1997, from 12 noon until 4 p.m. Graveside services with full military honors will be in Arlington National Cemetery at 3 p.m. Monday, March 3, 1997. BURNETTE, Arnold E., 47, of Stuart, passed away Friday, February 21, 1997. Memorial service 2 p.m. Sunday, Mayberry Presbyterian Church. Arrangements by Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel, Hillsville.

COCKE, Dorothy L., of Roanoke, passed away Friday, February 21, 1997. She was the widow of Lucian H. Cocke, Jr. Mrs. Cocke was born on January 26, 1900 in Pittsburgh, Penn., the daughter of Joseph W. Latshaw and Alice Scott Latshaw. She graduated from Hollins College (Class of 1922), where she met her future husband. After moving to Roanoke in 1923, she was an active member of Second Presbyterian Church, the Hollins Alumnae and the PTA. She served on the Boards of the Roanoke Red Cross and the Children's Home Society of Virginia and was the first president of the Roanoke League of Women Voters. Mrs. Cocke was a long-time member of the Roanoke Modern Arts and South Hills Garden Club. Surviving are two sons, Lucian H. Cocke, III of Roanoke, Richard Cocke of Richmond; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Stuart Cocke Stanley and Larimer V. Stanley of Roanoke; seven grandchildren, Dorothy Stanley Hart, Mary Hilliard Stanley, Ellen Cocke Stanley, Richard Larimer Stanley, Virginia Stanley Streit, Mary Stuart Cocke Battle, Michael Walker Cocke; and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday from Second Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. J. Eade Anderson and Dr. Julianne Hollingsworth officiating. Interment will follow in the Cocke Family Cemetery, Hollins. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Hollins College (7916 Williamson Rd., N.W., Roanoke, Va. 24020). DELLINGER, Misty Dawn, 20, of Christiansburg, died Wednesday, February 19, 1997. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, February 23, at the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Mr. Don Arney with entombment to follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are being handled by the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home.

FLEISCHHAUER, Eugene Thomas, 77, of Midlothian, died on the 12th day of February, 1997, at the Lucy Corr Nursing Home in Chesterfield. He is survived by his wife, Virginia F. Fleischhauer; three sons and their families, Dr. Thomas F. and Karen S. Fleischhauer and children of Apex, N.C., Jeffrey A. and Lisa C. Fleischhauer and children of Roanoke, and Grier S. and Kristin S. Fleischhauer and children of Midlothian, and other relatives in Richmond, Cumberland, Md., and Ohio. Mr. Fleischhauer was the son of William Henry and Martha Jane (``Jenny"") Starke Fleischhauer of Richmond. He was born on January 17, 1920, in Richmond. He graduated from Fort Hill High School in Cumberland, Md. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Marine Corps; Merchant Marines, and Army Air Corps in the 12th Air Force in North Africa as a navigator on a B-17. His plane was shot down over Italy and he became a prisoner of war from September 4, 1943, to May 1, 1945, in Stalag Luft I, Barth, Germany. He graduated from M.I.T. in 1950 and was a Research and Development Engineer as an inventor of new products, and was awarded many patents during his professional life. He was a member of the Denny Landrum Chapter of the American Ex-Prisoners of War Association. Memorial services were held in Richmond on February 16, 1997, at Forest Hill Presbyterian Church. Private interment ceremonies in Arlington National Cemetery will be attended by family members only. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Alzheimer's Association, Richmond Chapter, 7124 Forest Hill Avenue, Richmond, Va. 23225.

GRUBBS, Delia Ann, 82, of Galax, died Thursday, February 20, 1997, at Blue Ridge Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Danville on May 3, 1914, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Martha Lewis Phillips. She was the widow of the Rev. James C. Grubbs, former minister of Church of God of Prophecy of Galax. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Anne Grubbs. Surviving are three sons, James C. Grubbs Jr. of Billings, Mont., Calvin J. Grubbs of Bensalem, Pa., and Thomas Gene Grubbs of Kimberton, Pa.; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mrs. Grubbs will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, February 24, 1997, at Church of God of Prophecy on Baltimore Avenue in Danville, with the Rev. Jack Robertson officiating. IRVING, Matthew Cody, infant son of Eric and Kimberly Irving, died Tuesday, February 4, 1997, in Community Hospital. Dear Heavenly Father, recently You received our beloved son, Cody, into Your caring arms. Before we could show him an abundance of love, You gently accepted him from above. Our Father, we know You will care for and protect him until we all join together in Your Kingdom. Amen. JOHNS, Margaret Huffman, 81, of Roanoke, died Friday, February 21, 1997. She was the widow of Frank E. Johns, and was a member of Waverly Place Baptist Church. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Donald Overstreet of Roanoke; two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Mary Johns of Salem, and Theodore and Brenda Johns of Memphis, Tenn.; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and three sisters, Flonnie Lindsay of Richmond, Emma Jean Via of Roanoke and Peggy Young of Vinton. Graveside services will be in Fair View Cemetery at 1 p.m. Monday, February 24, 1997, with the Rev. Frank W. Feather officiating. LAMBERT, Trula Fay Grady, 99, of GlenWood Retirement Village in Princeton, W.Va., died Fr iday, February 21, 1997, at her residence. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paris Harvey Lambert, on March 2, 1978, and by a son, John Grady Lambert, on July 8, 1994. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Harry E. (Mary) Danielson of Boynton Beach, Fla., and Mrs. George W. (Dottie) Kiser of Marion, Va.; two sons, Paris Harvey Lambert Jr. and his wife, Margaret Carter Lambert of Tampa, Fla., and James Ernest Lambert and his wife, Virginia Dixon Lambert of Virginia Beach, Va.; a daughter-in-law, Nell Roberts Lambert; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, February 24, 1997, at Craven-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell, W.Va., with the Rev. Neville Mozingo officiating. LOOPE, Lloyd Lee, 80, formerly of Bluemont, Va. and Lisbon, Iowa, died in Manorcare Health Center, Waterloo, Iowa on Thursday, February 20, 1997 of Alzheimer's disease. He was born on August 21, 1916 in Botetourt County, Va. to Walter Lee and Annie Belle Cronise Loop. He married Alice Elizabeth Smith on December 17, 1941. Drafter immediately after Pearl Harbor, he served his country in the Fourth Armored Division of General George Patton's Third Army in the European Theatre of World War II. He was awarded the Bronze Star, the Silver Star and the Purple Heart. His career selling farm equipment for the James (later Butler) Manufacturing Company throughout the Shenanigan Valley of Virginia lasted forty-five years. Most of his life was spent in the Blue Ridge Mountains. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice, on December 27, 1995, by his three brothers, Robert, Howard and Kenneth, and by his parents. Surviving are his four children and their families, Lloyd, Jr. of Makawao, Hawaii, Walter and wife Lora of Munsing, Michigan, David and wife Cindy of Lincoln, Nebraska and Amy White and husband, Jim of Mt. Vernon, Iowa; and nine grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Doradean and Katherine of Buchanan, Va. and Alice of Blacksburg, Va. and twelve nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be in Wheatland Lutheran Church, Buchanan, Va., at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 1, 1997. Burial, with military rites in Wheatland Cemetery, Buchanan. Memorial donations may be made to Wheatland Lutheran Church, Buchanan, Va. 24066. Local arrangements are with O'Keefe and Town Funeral Home, Waterloo.

LOWE, Mattie Painter, 80, of Lexington, died Friday, February 21, 1997, in the Stonewall Jackson Hospital, Lexington. Mrs. Lowe was born in Augusta Co., on October 4, 1916, and was a daughter of the late Arthur C. Painter and Bessie Wilcher Painter. She was a member of the Poplar Hill Presbyterian Church, Lexington. She was preceded in death by a son, Francis Milton Lowe, one son-in-law, Wayne Hite, and two grandchildren, Tony Lee Garrett and Jo Ann Garrett. Mrs. Lowe is survived by a daughter, Mary Lowe Hite, Lexington; a daughter and son-in-law, Ruth & John Lee Stoner, Natural Bridge Station; a son and daughter-in-law, John & May Lowe, Lexington; a daughter-in-law, Virginia Lowe, Buena Vista; two sisters, Rose P. Sweet, Oak Grove Manor, Waynesboro; Nellie Smiley, Lexington; one brother, Walter L. Painter, Staunton; two grandchildren, Randolph Ward Lowe, Lexington and John Hunter Stoner, Natural Bridge Station. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, February 23, 1997, at 4 p.m. at the Harrison Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Don McLean officiating with burial to follow in the Green Hill Cemetery, Buena Vista. MORAN, Velma Recie Hylton, 73, of Floyd, passed away Saturday, February 22, 1997 in a Roanoke Hospital. Survived by husband, Charlie H. Moran of Floyd, Va; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Debra and Jamie Harmon of Willis, Va; Loretta & Irvine Hylton of Floyd, Va; and Linda Harrington of Roanoke, Va; one son, Jerry Burnette of Roanoke, Va; two sisters, Artis Davis of Floyd, Va; Virgini a Chatting of Roanoke, Va, seven grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Monday, February 24, 1997 at 11 a.m. at Gardner Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in Lee Cemetery Tuggles Gap, Va. PARRISH, Joel Harman Sr., 78, formerly of Christiansburg, died in University Heights, Ohio, on Monday, February 17, 1997. Joel was born March 25, 1918, to Harry Lee and Blanche Harman Parrish. He grew up in Christiansburg, attended Virginia Tech and graduated from National Business College. Joel served in the Air Force during World War II, where he achieved the rank of Captain before moving to Ohio. Joel is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Arline Siess Parrish; one daughter, Karen McGuire; two sons and daughters-in-law, Joel Jr. and Patricia of Joliett, Ill., and Michael and Iris of Noblesville, Ind.; five grandsons, and two granddaughters. Joel is also survived by two sisters and a brother-in-law, Devota (``Dit"") Pack of Blacksburg, and Georgia (``Jack"") and Rodney Lester of Christiansburg, and numerous nieces and nephews. A Funeral Mass was held on February 20, at Gesu Church, with interment at All Souls Cemetery, Cleveland, Ohio.
