BANKS AND HOKIES FALL IN CASSELL FINALE

William Byrd High School alumnus Sherry Banks scored a team-high 10 points in her final game at Cassell Coliseum, but Virginia Tech dropped its regular-season finale to La Salle 67-54 on Saturday night.

Chrissie Donahue had 23 points to lead La Salle (20-6 overall, 12-4 conference) to the Atlantic 10 victory. The Explorers finished second in the A-10's West Division and will meet the winner of the Virginia Tech-St.Bonaventure matchup on Thursday in Philadelphia.

Kim Seaver scored all eight of her points in the first half to keep the Hokies (9-20, 4-12) in the game. Teresa Witherspoon matched her career high with 10 assists for Tech, which finished sixth in the West and will travel to Olean, N.Y., to meet the Bonnies at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

In other women's games involving Virginia teams:

UNC Asheville 77, Radford 61: Senior Lee Christiansen scored a career-high 28 points in her final home game as the Bulldogs handed the Highlanders a Big South Conference loss in Asheville, N.C.

Christiansen hit four of six 3-point shots and connected on all 10 of her free throws as UNC Asheville wrapped up the third seed in the Big South Tournament.

Rebecca McNeil (Christiansburg) scored 19 points for Radford. Kelli Tull added 13.

Emory & Henry 74, Hollins 35: The Wasps had four scorers in double figures as they defeated Hollins in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference game in Emory.

Angie Simpkins (Auburn) scored 15 points for Emory & Henry, Courtney Shomaker had 13, Jaclyn Dickens (Cave Spring) 11 and Sallie Lefler 10.

Amy Worley (Blacksburg) had a huge game for Hollins, scoring 20 points and pulling down 19 rebounds.

Others

Renee Zando had 17 points and 11 rebounds and Allison Beightol (Cave Spring) added 15 points and nine assists as Randolph-Macon rolled past Eastern Mennonite 80-63 in an ODAC game in Ashland. ... Nikki Hall (Glenvar) scored 23 points as Longwood clinched the Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference regular-season title with a 78-67 victory over High Point in High Point, N.C.
