Art lecture series

The Art Museum of Western Virginia opens the 1997 season of the NationsBank Noon Lecture Series on Thursday. The first speaker will be painter and sculptor Dorothy Gillespie.

Each free lecture will be held at 20 East Church Avenue and will begin at noon lasting 50 minutes. The public is invited to bring lunch.

Gillespie is Distinguished Professor of Art at Radford University. She will discuss the evolution of her work from the 1950s to present, highlighting special projects and new technical innovations.

Ferrum food drive

The Ferrum College Alumni Association is sponsoring a statewide food drive on March 1 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nonperishable food items may be brought to Harris Teeter at Towers Shopping Center, Kroger at Town Square or Kroger in Vinton.
