Town police have charged a Wytheville man in connection with a stabbing outside the Leisure Lanes bowling alley Feb. 8.
Police arrested Clarence Dennis Gravely Jr., 21, on one count of malicious wounding.
The charge stems from an incident where police said Gravely stabbed Brian Dale Shrewsberry, 27, several times after an argument over the quality of the alley's bowling shoes.
Shrewsberry was treated and released the same day as the attack for cuts to his head, cheek and ear lobe. He also suffered a deep cut to his lower stomach, police said.
Initially, there were few leads in the case because none of the witnesses could identify the attacker or the three young females in his company.
Witnesses told police they heard the girls calling the man "Pokey." Using the nickname and a partial description, police checked with surrounding law enforcement departments. Wythe County authorities gave police a possible suspect.
Shrewsberry identified Gravely from a photo the police obtained, which then led to Gravely's arrest.
