SheVaCon V in Staunton
STAUNTON - SheVaCon V, a science fiction and fantasy convention, will be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Ingleside Hotel.
The convention will feature Ruth Thompson as artist guest of honor, Chris Sprouse for comics and Margaret Weis as writer. Among the others scheduled are David Weber, author of the "Honor Harrington" military space series of novels; Steve White of Charlottesville, who has collaborated with Weber on several novels and published several of his own, and Bud Webster of Richmond, whose first story in Analog was the readers' choice for most popular of the year and whose second story got the cover for that magazine.
Activities include workshops (Webster, a former Roanoke resident, is doing the writers' workshop), panels, gaming, art show and sale, a dealers' room offering books, gaming, comics, jewelry, music and more, and a costume masquerade contest and dance.
Three-day memberships are $20 ($10 for children between the ages of 8 and 12 years).

Rotary Frolics
ABINGDON - The 48th annual Rotary Frolics, sponsored by the Abingdon Rotary Club, are scheduled for 8 p.m. April 25 and 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. April 26 in the Barter Theatre.
Tickets are $10 and available from now through March 28 from any Abingdon Rotarian.
People from outside the area can call 676-7206. Tickets must be exchanged for reserved seats at Barter's box office.
Proceeds will support Rotary causes in the region.
More than $12,000 is raised by the popular variety show, which will be directed by Ed Damer.
