REWARD OFFERED IN CEMETERY VANDALISM

Family members of those buried in Haley Cemetery are offering a reward for information leading to the arrest of vandals who knocked over or broke 13 tombstones Saturday night.

Colleen Oakley, whose parents are buried in the cemetery, said she was extremely upset by the discovery.

"You don't know how upsetting it is to see your whole family's tombstones torn down," she said.

Oakley said she does not know how much it will cost to repair the damages, which will be paid for by family members. Two grave markers were broken and the remainder need to be reset in the ground, a process that can cost several hundred dollars.

The private cemetery opened in the early 1900s, Oakley said.

"My great-granddaddy started the cemetery on his property; our property is all around it," she said.

The cemetery, located on Shelburne Road in the eastern part of the county, has never had this problem before.

Anyone with information about the vandalism should call Pulaski County Sheriff's Office Investigator Brian Wade at 980-7800.
