FLOYD COUNTY BATTERS BATH CO.

Derek Saunders scored nine points in the first quarter and Travis Cantrell had 15 in the first half Tuesday as Floyd County trampled visiting Bath County 84-47 in the first round of the Region C tournament.

The Buffaloes (22-1) led 12-11 just past the midpoint of the first quarter when they began a 35-6 run to complete the half with a fury. Cantrell finished with 22 points and six assists and Saunders had 21 points and seven rebounds. Floyd advances to take on Grayson County in the next round Friday at Radford's Dedmon Center .

Brian Cauley led the Chargers (14-9) with 15 points.

In other games:

Grayson County 65, John Battle 51: Brad Elkins and Travis Archer led a second-half surge as the Blue Devils (17-6) topped the Trojans (10-14) in Region C action in Independence.

The Devils trailed by two at the half but Elkins and Archer scored 10 points each in the second half to spark the victory. Elkins finished the game with 18 points and Archer had 12 points and eight rebounds. Wes Self contributed seven rebounds and seven assists for Grayson County.

John Odum led the Trojans with 17 points.

Parry McCluer 79, Bland 67: The Fighting Blues took control by outscoring the Rockets 22-11 in the third quarter and went on to a victory in a first-round game in Buena Vista. Parry McCluer advances to meet the George Wythe-Glenvar winner at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Radford University's Dedmon Center.

David Downs led the Fighting Blues (20-2) with 19 points and brothers Chip (17 points) and David Coleman (15) combined for 32.

Lee Meadows scored 21 points for Bland (18-6). Heath Puckett added 14 and Brent Tate 13.

Region IV

Graham 75, Laurel Park 60: The G-Men used pressure defense to pull away for a victory over the Lancers in a first-round tournament game in Bluefield.

Graham (22-1) advances to the Region IV semifinals to play at Gate City (20-4) on Thursday night.

After a close first quarter, the G-Men turned up the pressure and outscored Laurel Park 37-24 in the second and third periods to take a 55-42 lead into the final eight minutes.

Jason Hypes had 20 points to lead Graham, while Jeff Lynch scored 18 points, had five assists and seven steals.

Jeff Slade scored 16 points for Lancers (15-8), while Corey Flood added 14.

VIS State Division II

Carlisle 70, Notre Dame (Middleburg) 62, OT: Lamont Franklin scored 30 points for the Chiefs (13-8) in a first-round win over Notre Dame (22-7) in Middleburg.

Chad Martin scored four of his 18 points in the extra frame as the Chiefs shutout Notre Dame 8-0. Russ Mason added 14 points for Carlisle, which will play Ryan Academy tonight at Nansemond-Suffolk.

Bobby Weismiller led Notre Dame with 29 points.
