CARLISLE FALLS TO RYAN 71-62

Ryan Academy advanced to the semifinal round of the Virginia Independent Schools Division II boys' basketball state tournament with a 71-62 victory over Carlisle on Wednesday in Suffolk.

Ryan Academy (29-3), led by Omar Minnis' game-high 27 points, built 15-point leads in the second and fourth quarters and held off a Carlisle rally down the stretch to claim the victory.

Trailing 50-35 in the final period, Carlisle went on a 17-2 run to cut the lead to a single bucket. Ryan Academy scored 19 of the game's final 31 points.

Lamont Franklin paced Carlisle (14-9) with 22 points and Brandon Page hit for 18. NOTE: please see microfilm for scores.
