A 21-year-old Cana man has been charged with murder in the death of William Charles Epperson, 50, whose body was found in his home early Wednesday by two Carroll County deputies.
Teddy Roe Dixon was arrested in Mount Airy, N.C., when a police officer stopped a truck reported stolen from Epperson and found Dixon driving it. Dixon was charged with being a fugitive from justice and is in the Surry County, N.C., jail until he can be extradited to Virginia on charges of murder and grand larceny.
Sheriff Warren Manning quoted a medical examiner as saying Epperson had been shot at least once and stabbed many times.
The Sheriff's Office received a call about 1:30 a.m. Deputies Bobby Lyons and Dennis Boyer went to Epperson's home to check on him and found his body.
Family members told them Epperson's truck was missing. They learned that a witness saw it traveling south on U.S. 52 into Surry County.
