AIR FORCE CAPTAIN MICHAEL A. MAYES, son of Billie Reid of Salem and Samuel Mayes of Daleville, recently was promoted to his present rank.
Mayes, an executive officer at Charleston Air Force Base, North Charleston, S.C., is a 1988 graduate of Northside High School and a 1992 graduate of Virginia Tech.
ARMY NATIONAL GUARD PVT. AARON W. AKERS, son of Gary and Debbie Akers of Salem, recently graduated from basic training and advanced individual training at Fort Sill, Okla.
Akers is a 1996 graduate of Glenvar High School.
ARMY PVT. NICHOLAS J. CURRIER, son of Kenneth and Chinae Currier of Roanoke, recently has completed basic training at Fort Knox, Ky.
Currier is a 1996 graduate of Cave Spring High School.
LANCE CPL. MARQUETTE E. POSTON, son of Jones Poston II of Roanoke, was promoted to his present rank while serving with Marine Helicopter Training Squadron 204, 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, Marine Corps Air Station New River, N.C.
Poston was a 1992 graduate of William Fleming High School.
AIR FORCE STAFF SGT. APRIL M. KRAUTH, daughter of James Preston III of Roanoke and Carol Hunt of Grafton, W.Va., participated as a member of the Armed Forces Inaugural Committee for the 53rd Presidential Inauguration.
NAVY PETTY OFFICER 1ST CLASS CATHERINE E. GOTT, daughter of Jane Gott of Roanoke, recently was selected as Supervisor of the Quarter at Naval Air Station, Lemoore, Calif.
STAFF SGT. BRYAN S. CARKIN, son of Loretta Semones of Roanoke, recently received the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal for honest and faithful service.
Carkin, a 1977 graduate of Andrew Lewis High School, is currently stationed at Marine Corps Recruiting Station, Milwaukee.
